I say others because of Dylans voice.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

KE9:

Not that I consider a poll taken on this site to be exactly representative, much less accurate, since Dylan is not a prog artist, and although the members enjoy other genres than prog, prog is still the reason people come here.

Nice try, though...

Peace.

Depends ... I think Dylan did the definitive Times They Are A Changin', Blowin' In The Wind, Like A Rolling Stone and Masters Of War and at least 1/2 his material .... but there are many Dylan songs in which my favourite (and in some cases the definite) version is performed by someone else.

These songs come to mind ...

Mannfred Mann's Earth Band - Father Of Day Father Of Night
Jimi Hendrix Experience - All Along The Watchtower
Eric Clapton - Knockin' On Heaven's Door (relatively debatable)
The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man, Chimes Of Freedom, My Back Pages
The Band - Tears Of Rage, This Wheel's On Fire
Fairport Convention - Million Dollar Bash

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

It is hard to say, in my opinion, which is better. It would almost seem like a no-brainer if you didn't know who Bob Dylan was, that he'd be the best person to play his own songs.

I think Bob Dylan seems to lack a variety in the music he presents. For the most of us being progressive rock fans, we usually like having our lyrics being in relation to the music being presented. Bob Dylan plays out the folky-country sound so much that I'm not sure what he's trying to display in his lyrics.

I think some of the bands that have covered Dylan's songs have done a better job of showing the imagery and feelings of the lyrics being sung. Dylan just seems to come across as cold-hearted to me, because he just doesn't do enough with his lyrics. It's like he's some kind of old-farmer's boy who became a cowboy who's manliness prevented him from showing any emotion.

Albeit I think people should give Dylan some credit for things he said in his lyrics. It can be difficult to express what you want in word-form anyhow.

Never liked the guys voice, or liked any of the songs mentioned here. I always found him a bit tedious to be honest.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Dylans voice may suck,  but he had a great presentation , and sometimes having a good presentation overcomes having a good voice. Besides no one can sing Dylans songs as well as he can

His voice suits on some of his songs! "Like A Rolling Stone" is a good example of a song, when his original version is the best one.
