Topic: Best prog metal drummer Posted: February 07 2004 at 04:32 |
My favourite drummer in the prog metal genre is Mike Portnoy, although Mark Zonder is equally astonishing.

Mark Zonder. On tour in 95 Fates Warning blew the main band (DT) out of the water as far as precision is concerned.

Ed Warby is absolutely brilliant in Ayreon's "The Human Equation", and unlike many musicians and singers in Ayreon's compilations of artists, Warby's has been chosen to reappear in his role as drummer in multiple offerings by Ayreon. Warby's appearances include the earlier offerings "Into the Electric Castle", and "The Universal Migrator Part II, The Flight of the Migrator", and the more recent "Actual Fantasy Revisited". Warby is amazing. Of the drummers listed, I'll have to go for Portnoy as he is amazing as well. However, I think I would have gone for Warby by a slight margin if he had been listed. I am sure there are manying varying opinions, but I think Warby is hard to top.
