Topic: The Tea Party Posted: July 16 2005 at 04:39 |
i d just like to know if anyone here has heard of them?
would you class them as prog?
i think that they are the best new (by me personally) discovery in years
i went to see queensryche about 3 years ago and the tea party were the support band
and IMO were better
worth a listen if you like rush led zeppelin type music

I got The Edges of Twilight (1995) for my son about 18 months ago. Lead
singer(Martin) sounds like a modern day Jim Morrison. Very charismatic except I
think he has a better voice than Jim.
Apparently they have metamorphised a number of times. The album I have heard is pretty mellow.
I would need to listen to more of their albums to make a decision
wether I think they are prog or not but what I have heard so far is
very moreish. Lots of different styles and musical cultures included in
their music and on the album I have, they don't overdo it. Excellent
guitar and some great integration of eastern, celtic and even cujon
coming out in some songs.
Perhaps you could give a bit of a rundown of what you know about their
stuff and from what you know about them, why you think they might be
prog.
You should get a good response from the Canadian contingent on the forum. Martin comes from Windsor in Ontario.
Thanks for reminding me about that album. I must get some of their stuff for myself.

Just been listening to Sister Awake. Awesome song.
They sound like their music could be described as 'rock mystic'.

there is a sharp decline in the last two albums material wise (especially the last release), but their early stuff is great. My personal favourites are the self titled debut, and Transmission. Definetly worth checking out if your a prog rock fan. (my favourite song by them btw is psychopomp)

The debut is called "Splendor Solace". There's a self-titled Indie cd that precedes it, but it's impossible to find.
My favorite is "The Bazaar", from Edges of Twilight.
I do consider them "progressive" due to their use of eastern scales and modes, and the fact that almost every Tea Party song is in a unique guitar tuning.

Ahh them Tea Party.I used to work with them(Martin and Chatwin) in the same restaurant in their humble beginnings.Lots of fun.Saw them in small clubs when half their material would be Zep songs.
I requested 'Hot Dog' once. Those were the days.
Got a poster from then also.
Am not in touch with them at all,and have not seen them in eons.Maybe next time they play a small gig.I think they got the opening gig for Def Leppard soon.
But yes, they do make good and unique music,no doubt about it.
