I dunno. Sometimes MJK's voice sounds really cool, like in the soft, Arabesque parts of Lateralus, but I'm not always a fan of his when he starts screaming like in "Ticks and Leeches". For whatever reason, I honestly prefer LaBrie.

Though as I've probably stated already, Russell Allen is probably the "best of genre", with Mikael Akerfeldt close on his heels.

where is ray alder and where is buddy lackey???  Crimson Glory were not prog metal but us power, opeth have nothing to do with prog metal and tool have nothing to do with metal. anyway i believe that tate was/is/will be the best singer in prog metal....nobody can reach him.

I voted 'Other': Mike Baker, Shadow Gallery...I'm amazed he's not in the list.

I agree with all the LaBrie bashing. He really DOES suck. Sounds awfully strained at the high notes, has that awful breathy stuff going on in the ballads, haven't got the power for the metal tunes, and sounds generally emotionless when he sings. AND he's almost always about a quarter note too low when they play live. However, on Octavarium I must applause him a bit, too. He doesn't try to get as high as before, which gives a better overall impression, and he suddenly has got FEELING, which makes even the ballads a worthwile listening! He's still way behind Gildenlöw, though. That guy is for metal singing what Virgil Donati is for metal drumming.

James Labrie live.. well I agree, it's strained at times and a lot of breathing going on there.  It's a real pleasure to watch singers who never miss a note live, a that's why I voted for Geoff Tate!

I'd say Jorn Lande for his work with ARK. He pretty much covers everything ther, from Coverdale to Bjork....

okay people this was kinda hard to choose
but NO f**kING WAY that i can find anyone anyone in this whole world
that is a better singer then mikeal Ákerfield he has been my personal favorite for over 6six years now and a VERY close second maynard james

I voted for mr. Allen from Symphony X, very expressive, very powerful, lovely... But who i really consider the best voice in Prog Metal is Mike Patton (Fantomas), but he's not on the list...

I like some Fantomas and Mr. Bungle but I saw Tomahawk when they opened for Tool on the Lateralus tour and he was terrible.Practically got booed off the stage.
