I don't know Gong, Tangerine Dream and The Tea Party well enough ... and you forgot Van Der Graaf Generator and Caravan. But of those listed and except the bands that I listed - I would choose
Gentle Giant.

It have to be king crimson. They have created and defined almost all aspects of prog over the years.. Gentle giant would be second, followed by gong.

"Tangerine Dreams" sounds better for a band name, but mr. Froese decided to keep it singular so better use that way. Anyway, I voted for them, because of their none-of-them-alike '70's productions... Amazing.
MikeEnRegalia is right about missing bands: VdGG and Caravan... I believe Renaissance should also have been there. Other than those, I would vote for King Crimson (all-time master of prog) and Gong... Strange, nothing else comes to my mind as "original" and "creative"...

Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

never heard anyone else so original and so musically creative apart from technical concerns.
the beatles, imho, come second as far as pure creativity goes.
as far as american musicians: frank zappa.
madonna, b. spears, et al, are about as creative as a chinese sweat-shop assembly line...

Gentle and creative in a gigantic way. To make tracks like Pantagruel's Nativity and Knots... Albums like Acquiring The Taste and Octopus...

I love King Crimson. Red is one of my all time faves. It is incredibly diverse and creative. However, a friend is a huge Gentle Giant fan and always raves about them.

I voted Yes but for me they are in the same stage of creativity as King Crimson.
They are both unique in their own styles (nobody sounds like them).
I guess in that list you also forgot ELP

If it is all about creativity, then everyone should vote the bands who actually created something new and changed something in the music history, like The Beatles.
I cannot think of a progressive band, which can be considered to be the creator of prog music....

PINK FLOYD with SYD BARRET would overwhelm KING CRIMSON, but if I compare the complete works so far from these, it's KING CRIMSON.

It was between Gentle Giant for sounding like absolutely no one else and King Crimson for inventing prog and changing their style so many times , but I chose Gentle Giant for purely bias reasons.
Jethro Tull certainly deserve more votes than Yes.
