Topic: Calling All Musicians! Posted: April 06 2005 at 00:01 |
Who's a musician and what do you play?
I'm a bass player, twenty years experience. I have played in around 20 bands in my lifetime, ranging from the atrociously crappy to the actually almost-near decent. I have performed RIO, symphonic prog, fusion, prog metal, and blues. I do a little standard electric guitar, but I'm crap on it.

You should check out the Musical Instruments and Equipment sections if you want any information on this...

I'm not interested in the equipment, I'm interested in the human beings and their musical experiences.

Although the heading might not suggest it, there are a few topics in there that discuss who on this forum is a musician. I suggest you take a look.

I'm 19 and have performed live just 2 times, the first one when I was 16, with my metal band "Defuncion" and we made one song about one teacher we all hated , i suppose he never found out that the song was for him (the song was cool, it had various parts and 6 minutes long), at that time, i just had Dream Theater as an idea of Prog and Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Death, Led Zeppelin and others as some favorites. Oh, in Defuncion i played rythmic guitar. One year later ("Defuncion" had already been split to death by this time) I had Prog as my most important musical interest and 2 friends and I decided to make a Rush instrumedley, we did La Villa Strangiatto/YYZ, approximately 12 mins. Here I was the bassist, and since then i've stood with that as my main position in the band. We now play now and then in our drummer's house us for fun, jamming and playing some Rush, Marillion and classic rock covers.
Can this be interesting for someone? mmmm, it should be fun to read other people's experiences, go on with the thread .

Hey, someone likes my thread! Take that, Cygnus X-2!!
So you have a metal background? Awesome. I was in a metal band once called Burning Dress. This was in the late seventies, but I think our influences were King Crimson, Rush, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Ronnie James Dio. Metallica wasn't even famous yet and prog metal wasn even a real genre yet. We only wrote maybe five songs, but at our live shows, we'd 'reinterpret' metal standards of the time. Our vocalist did a Bob Dylan impression and would sing 'War Pigs' or 'Schizoid Man' in that voice. It was an awesome band, right up until two of our members got arrested for drug abuse. Good times...

I'm 20 and I'm a keyboard player for now 15 years (Started taking
lesson real young). Of course I wasn't doing any shows until I was 15.
I had a Punk band, a Metal band that was strongly Influence by Children
of bodom (that reached to a absolute nothing...at least with the punk
band we did a demo ). For the past
two years I was a Jazz quartet named the Last minute Jazz quartet and
in a Intrumental prog band named Nemesis (Original uh?....I'm not the
one who decided this).
Right now, me and a couple of musician with who I work at college, we
are starting a Ozzy Osbourne Tribute band and I'm in a transition thing
with Hamadryad's Keyboard Player, Francis Doucet. I'm replacing him for
this summers little tour after the release of the new album (!4th of
May)
That's about it. I do a lot of other gigs too, Subbing keyboard player
for pop shows, doing some ambient jazz in restaurants and those thing.
I will studying in Jazz interpretation at University next autumn.

I'm 17 and have been playing guitar for 4 years (ok, so I'm a newbie). I play piano/keyboards and a little bass I mainly jam with my younger brother on drums. We make some recordings; my brother on drums and I, everything else (guitar, keyboards, bass etc...). I want to study jazz guitar and music and/or guitar theory.
I'm also in a band that is currently falling apart (real keyboard player moving, uninterested bass player etc.) who played a pretty eclectic selection of music (all original material). I'm in the process of trying to put another one together.

I'm a drummer. I play (or at least i try) to play a prog/swing style. I'm in a band. We are called Flammable Titan. We have drums, guitar, bass, keyboard/piano/(organ when we can use it ), sax, trumpet, and a load of percussion. We played live only once, at a church "open mike" kinda thing to rasie money for the church. It went well. I'm enjoying it and i hope it goes on for a while.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Bass-player, been playing for four years now. I've played blues,
rock & roll, metal, musicals, some prog and a little jazz.
Don't think I'm quite good enough to play full-blown prog yet, but one
day! Attempting to learn acoustic guitar and harmonica, just to
expand my repetoire.
