King’s X

I dunno, I've been listening to them a lot lately and I think they are an awesome band- probably one of the most underrated bands around.

What do you think?

I have the Jelly Jam debut album.

I think it's pretty wicked cool.

Must have been Dogman ... normally their albums are not at all depressing, more like uplifting. I agree with TheProgtologist, Gretchen Goes To Nebraska is their classic album, closely followed by Faith Hope Love.

By latest album, you probably mean Black Like Sunday.  And yes, Dogman is very heavy compared to most of their other work.  The self-titled album is my favorite.

At the risk of offending just about everybody who's posted so far ... I must say that I've been looking at this thread with constant disbelief ... These guys seemed to be like a pleasant grungy, limited hybrid of Rush and Soundgarden ... very talented musicians no doubt, but I'm not thrilled by the songwriting

Not in my Top 500 bands, I think ... I'm just wondering if its because the Best Of features just a certain kind of song ... surely if I've gone through 17 tracks like these and am not impressed, I should stop ... or is there a proggy masterpiece that isn't reflected in the tracks here?

You guys should listen to Gretchen Goes to Nebraska ... not just one or two songs, but the entire album. That's the only way to find out why we like them so much.

BTW: I wouldn't call them Prog, it's more like an unique form of Melodic Rock with unusual twists and turns.

So you don't like them, I don't have any problem with that - I was only trying to say that those who judge them by the Best of album and have not heard Gretchen should listen to that album before deciding that they really don't like them. Unless they have a general problem with the King's X sound - then they don't need to bother, because their general approach is basically the same on each album.
