I think the names speak for themselves.

I love Terje Rypdal's If Mountains Could Sing. I listened to Jan Garbarek and Lena Willemark but I don't like their music very much. I admire the ECM way of making records, though, and the idea of mixing, rock, classical, ambient and jazz, which is so close to the idea of prog.

I'm not sure whether Oregon are/were an ECM band as well (and I'm too lazy to check), but if this is the case, then my rating of the label goes from 11 out of 10 to about a million out of 10 |

Hmm. At least OREGON's "Out of The Woods" is not by ECM. I guess their music wouldn't match the aestetich idea of the label in a way, that Ralph's own work do. There was an article in Helsingin Sanomat (local newpaper) about the guy who founded ECM, but I can't remember his name. He said, that he tries to produce a selection of artisticly high class records, that hold a feeling of a large space resembling the big foggy lakes he used to live by as a child.

^^^ Well, that would explain a lot. Still, I think Oregon have what it takes ambience-wise to be an ECM band. (still too lazy to simply check) EDIT: I've just checked and it seems "Crossings", "Ecotopia" and the s/t are ECM albums. Edited by Manunkind |
