Close To The Edge defines progressive rock for me and is the best thing by Yes although all their albums between 1971-1977 are brilliant.

That's Fragile. I began prog listening with CTTE but it sure took a
while to understand. Fragile is easier to listen, and most importantly,
there is Roundabout.

i think that that the compositions are superior to the ones on close to
the edge (the other albums are no comparison although still mostly
brilliant)

Gotta go with Relayer. Gates simply blows away a lot of their other wirk. CTTE is a close 2nd.

The Yes Album, CTTE and Relayer are all masterpieces. I choose CTTE, with the other two close behind.

TFTO for sheer quantity and (most of the time) quality. Personally Prog rock to me is music to close your eyes and let the music drive your imagination and inner vision. This album is like a trip to a tropical paradise with its culture and science rolled into one. It may have been an overambitious project for Messrs Anderson and Howe, but IMO the end result is impressive, whatever the critics say.
The Revealing Science of God plus Ritual: absolutely awesome and 'live' even more so.
The Ancient: is also very good but maybe slightly taxing on the ear, but all is redeemed with Steve Howe's exquisite acoustic bit.
The Remembering is a bit on the slow side and maybe a trifle commercial and provides the disappointment of the album.
The cover design is magnificent - definitely my favourite album cover.

Tales From Topographic Oceans.
Lucky enough to see them tour this album. I play it to give me a lift
when I'm down. Just an awesome collection of moods and emotions.

Actually, when I'm down or angry I prefer Crimson: Larks or Three of a Perfect Pair.
Yes, I reserve for happier moments. I see them very much as a "sunny" positive energy band, lots of major chords. Crimson are dark and dabble with lots of minor chords and sad modes - Phrygian I believe.

"OLIAS OF SUNHILLOW" IS BETTER THAN ANY YES ALBUM!!!!!
Jon's first solo effort is waaaaaaaay underated. If it were a Yes album it would be the best one.

I chose Relayer. Nothing beats The Gates of Delirium IMO. That song alone makes Relayer my favorite. Throw in Sound Chaser and you get one hell of a treasure. The Yes Album is a close second however, because of Clap and Yours is No Disgrace.

CTTE is the culmination of the Yes aesthetic; they went on to make other great works (Topographic Oceans, Relayer, Going for the one), but these were more in the same vein and therefore didn't advance the group as their previous work did.

Very close for me between CTTE and Going For The One.
I think GFTO is underrated by Yes fans,tracks like Awaken,Parallels and Turn Of the Century are among their very best.
But,in the end, Close To The Edge is a seminal Prog Rock album,so gets my vote.
