And thanks to this thread I now have the image of 70's Pompeii-look Pink Floyd doing the things with the umbrella in Rihanna's films.
And yet if she'd sing "The Wall" lyric for lyric it would have made "The Wall" more dynamic! But yeah, Pink Floyd of course.

I thought about making a serious approach to this poll, but decided otherwise.

Not to mention that Pink Floyd came in through a period that music was revolutionary, while Rihanna came in a period where her music genre was very easy to replicate as well as easily commercially popularized. Also, Rihanna did have experts writing songs for her, while Nick, Gilmour, Wright, and Waters had to wright their own material themselves.
It shows you when Pink Floyd is much more famous, yet they were self successful.

This clearly is the best topic on Progarchives at this moment. Amongst
the bombastically serious ambiance, it gives me a tip of fresh air.
Oh, and a naive question from an ignorant figure such as myself: didn't Pink Floyd receive the same amount of promotional support from a rather mainstream and very rich promo-machine at their times and weren't they more commercially successful than, outquestionably curious hip hop extravaganza mentioned above? Just curious. |

I have to disagree with you here, Vompatti One cannot compare how much better Floyd is compared to Rihanna, she has all that corporate marketing tools, all commercial machines behind her, the so called experts in no way comes she even close to Pink Floyd who to date are timeless. Her songs sell millions yes but they don't last, it's a momentary thing, soon people who listen to her forget the current song and move on either to a new one or another artist, I cannot see anyone in 10 years time playing a recent hit of hers or 5 years even, there's not enough I think to maintain the interest, it's more hype and current electronic beat plus heavy bass I think. hugs Edited by Kati - October 03 2014 at 20:03 |

It's not a fair comparison, Rihanna has people (experts) writing songs for her, that's why they're so much better than Pink Floyd who had to do everything themselves.

Well, if we use The Final Cut as the comparing album then maybe Rihanna ends up winning

Well I did notice Katy has a mini-dress on display at Cleveland's Rock&Roll Hall Of Fame...so she must clearly be a rocker type at heart. Right?
It doesn't look like the band cared about the audience at that point anyways...they just needed a few seconds of playing what they truly wanted to play as musicians to clear their heads before settling back to dishing out "I Kissed A Girl" for their paychecks.

That's quite funny. Katy Perry (whoever she is) does a number called "Rush". Predictable bubblegum crap. So her backing band play Cygnus X1 for a laugh to her teenybopper audience. Watch the reaction of the audience, absolutely nothing. Confusion at best. ;-) |

I just had a funny picture in my mind if MJ had fronted Genesis and PG was singer for the Jackson 5. |
