Topic: Is Silicon Valley currently the best US sitcom? Posted: June 24 2014 at 11:12 |
Community was cancelled and Louie was just alright this year. So yeah, I guess I'd say Silicon Valley is my favorite sitcom at the moment.
Its the first show I've ever seen where they portray engineers realistically. Sometimes though, it hits the nail on the head too well and its uncomfortable... ![Embarrassed Embarrassed](smileys/smiley9.gif)

I like Louis CK in theory - but it just depressed me so much, I had to stop watching after about 4 or 5 episodes. If I were younger, I'd probably enjoy it more; but since I'm probably around the same age, it's just too much of a downer, haha. I just started recently watching Always Sunny after a friend recommended it, and I'm on the 2nd season on Netflix. Thought it was an older show; I didn't realize it's still going. So far, though, I like Silicon Valley much better (although my friend assures me that Always Sunny gets better as it progresses). Haven't seen the others, will have to make a note to check them out.
Some write-ups on Silicon Valley, for those not convinced by my (or Graham Linehan's) raves about it:

Voted yes because its closer to correct than no but we'll have to wait and see. It got better and funnier throughout the season, or maybe I just found it funnier as I got to know the characters more. I'm hoping for some new eccentric characters such as his part. |
Yeah, the Peter Gregory character was hilarious, and the loss of Christopher Evan Welch is a big blow to the show, he was brilliant. (That Ted talk! Being carried out as some kind of Cesar at the "Peter Gregory Foundation's Fourth Annual Orgy of Caring"!...). I hope that out of a tribute to him, they cast someone who can continue to play Peter Gregory the way he played him.
My favorite episode was actually the first one. Chris Rock? WTF?! Haha. Just hilarious. But there were so many highlights throughout the season.
Unless Arrested Development gets brought back for a new season, I don't know of any American sitcom that can compete with Silicon Valley.

I agree with you there. One big problem I think is the female character, Monica, who is apparently going to play a bigger role in the future: she's just not funny. She's not even supposed to be funny. It's like, here's this great comedy, and then when she enters a scene (any scene), it's suddenly a soap opera. I expressed this to Mr Linehan, and he agreed, and wrote that it's worrying, but hopefully they'll correct it in the future.

Yes would be the correct answer ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) . Anyone else seen this? What do you think?
I only heard about it because Graham Linehan - the creator of Father Ted and The IT Crowd - raved about it on Twitter, and said he likes to pretend it's the American version of The IT Crowd (as opposed to a horrible pilot that never aired). I watched every episode in 2 days, and then started re-watching them...
BTW, the creator of the show, Mike Judge, is also responsible for Beavis and Butt-head and the movie Office Space.
