You'll probably find all the info you could wish for about Cortex in this interview with the band's mastermind - ie. pianist Alain Mion: http://www.frenchattack.com/PopUpFile/filepopupalainmion.html.

I'll embed a few of the tubes of their most well-regarded album, 'Troupeau Bleu' (1975) here, and we'll see what others might think about their relevance (or otherwise) to the site:

That's pretty well the whole album apart from the last track 'Madbass'

There were three other albums - Vol.2 (1977), Pourquoi (1978), and Inédit '79  (2006).

Edit: If you're having trouble embedding videos, then my reply to someone else who found themselves in the same situation can be read here: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=97597&PID=4962653#4962653Smile

Hey all,

I was looking for information on a 70s  French band called Cortex. I'm very new to them, but apparently they only have one or two albums. The main one, called Troupeau Bleu is very jazzy/funky with lots of vocal harmonies (slightly reminiscent of  Samla Mammas Manna).

Check out some of the songs...

EDIT: Not sure why the videos are not working, but some good old copy-n-paste addresses:

These are a few that I like but really the whole album is quite unique, and has been sampled endlessly by hip-hop artists and the like. Thought it might be appreciated here.

Does anyone know more of them? Similar bands?
Cheers!
