Topic: Your top ten favourite guitarists Posted: June 08 2014 at 19:37 |
Not my 3 favorites but the 3 best.
T-Bone Walker (because the first real electric guitar player)
Django (the best of his time)
Jimi (the best of his time)

Agreed. Goven could possibly be the best guitarist on the planet right now. Insane technique and mastery of many genres. Erotic Cakes was brilliant. I heard Guthrie and his composition "Fives" first on Lee Ritenour's 6-String Theory. Vinnie on drums and Tal on bass, providing the rhythm section. But, it blew my mind when I heard Gutherie's original version which I liked even better, with cats I was not even aware of on drums and bass. And his Rhode Island Shred is a quirky fun take on Steve Morse-type chicken pickin. What a romp!
Check out Plini's stuff too if you dig Goven. Similar, but with more of a steady electronic quality to it (perhaps because of the lack of drummer.)

Seriously? I really thought it was Steve there (Since he is the lead guitar in Porcupine Tree, as far as I know)
Anyway, thanks for correct that, and also the recommendation, going to check his work asap :D

^^Hey Watcher of the Sky:-)
Nice list there.
One thing though, it's actually not Steven playing the solo on 'Drive Home', but rather new guitar prodigy Guthrie Govan;-) If you dig his style, then you can't really go wrong with his solo effort 'Erotic Cakes'.

10. Steve Lukather 9. Pat Martino 8. Paul Gilbert 7. Jeff Beck 6. Steve Morse 5. Gutherie Govan 4. Martin Taylor 3. Steve Vai 2. Brent Mason 1. Al di Meola That's a quick ten. No room for Scofield, Holdsworth, Stern, Montgomery, Dominic Miller, Satch, Loureiro, or newbie Plini! ...but what do I know, I'm just a dumb drummer

I couldn't take it anymore, so I went ahead and corrected the thread title
10 guitarists you say?
John Weinzierl
Fripp
Michael Karoli
Michio Kurihara
David Gilmour
Conny Veit
Manuel Göttsching
Reine Fiske
Jimi
Eric Clapton ( Back when he was on special medicine )
Adrian Belew ( see Red Sails from Bowie's Lodger )
Whoops 11.
And I haven't even begun to list all the wonderful guitarists from places like Japan and Italy, but that's entirely because the names always end up all scrambled in my head, and then I have to do a search, and more things will follow, and right now I just want to remove my shoes because they're killing me.
