I have always been fascinated by dinosaurs, or to be more exact giant reptiles of the mesozoic since pterosaurs, crocodiles and all the gigantic marine reptiles like mosasaurs, pliosaurs, ichtyosaurs and so on are not dinosaurs. I sincerely wish I could travel back in time and see them all in their living glory. But unfortunately I can't, so I have to stick with the reptiles of today.

I would love to have a boa in a terrarium, but Jean is opposed to it. She could stand the boa, but not that it has to be fed with living mice.

As a teenager I was also extremely fascinated by bats, and I wanted to have a tame one. That was due to my fascination with magic at that  time, especially dark magic. My parents were dead against it though. I have no idea if bats can be tamed at all, by the way, and even if they can it is most definitely impossible to get them housebroken.

Someone should put this to music...

Five days out on an infinite sea, they prayed for calm on an ocean free,
But the surface of the water was indicating some disturbance.

The raft was hurled by and unseen source, two hundred feet,
With frightening force
And a dark mass rising showed to be
a giant fish eating therapod thing that would one day evolve
into a sparrow or a chicken, I dunno, may be a flamingo or something

Rising out of the angry sea,
towered the creature's enemy,
a quite large crocodile thing,
one that would no doubt later evolve
into a, well, smaller crocodile thing,
may be an alligator or a caimen,
or perhaps a gharial ...
...anyway, that's not important

And so the two sea monsters
closed for a battle
armed with well-thumbed copies
of "Stand Up Comedy for Dummies",
"The Idiot's Guide to Slapstick",
and the Rachel Welsh Dirty Song Book,
(skimpy yellow polka dot fur bikini Jurasic edition)

Crocodile's teeth, lizard's shoe,
bloodshot eye, stained the ocean blue
Moving close to their raft's side,
the two men prayed as one and cried
"Wenn ist das Nunstruck git und Slotermeyer?
Ja! ... Beiherhund das Oder die Flipperwaldt gersput!"

What?

Well, it's not exactly how I would imagine a bloody duel to death between these two dinosaurs.
They rather seem to be chillin' out in their nice pool, in the middle of the summer... Or is it me being tired of February?

"Boy, you know what I hate?  When one of them, uh, those giant space rocks?"
"Asteroids?"
"Yeah, when one of them asteroids hits the earth and kills us all."
"I hate when that happens!"

I prefer this poem:

How doth the little crocodile
Improve his shining tail,
And pour the waters of the Nile
On every golden scale!

How cheerfully he seems to grin,
How neatly spreads his claws,
And welcomes little fishes in
With gently smiling jaws!

Lewis Carroll, "Alice in Wonderland"

Oh, by the way: The joke could be something like this: "Question: How do you crack the armour of an ankylosaurus? Answer: You don't; all you will crack are your teeth".

Raul Martin is a renowned paleontological illustrator. Yet one of his pictures always makes me laugh. It is a picture of two of the most fearsome predators that ever walked the earth, the crocodile Sarcosuchus and the theropod Suchomimus. Here it is:

I don't know how you feel about that picture, but for me it looks as if Suchomimus is telling Sarcosuchus an extremely funny joke, and both laugh about it. Is this just my overactive imagination or do you feel the same way?
