The bride and bridegroom were on their way to the church to get married and, tragically, were both killed in a car accident. Arriving at the Pearly Gates, the bride protested:
“Saint Peter, why? On the day we were to wed, something like this happens…”
“Life – or death, I should say – is like that”, said the guardian of the gates to Paradise.
“But couldn’t you take pity on us”, said the bridegroom, “and marry us here?”
Saint Peter thought about it for a few seconds and then said “Wait here, let me see what I can do”.
Two hours later he returned, bringing with him a priest. “There! I have brought a priest to marry you, but there is one condition…”
“What?” said the bridge and groom, together.
“Here there is no divorce! The marriage will have to last for all eternity.”
“But ‘for all eternity’ is a long time!”, complained the bridegroom, “What if the marriage does not work out?”
“Tough luck”, said Saint Peter. “It was difficult enough finding a priest here in Heaven, imagine trying to find a lawyer!”
