Green Carnation- LIght of Day, Day of Darkness. A 60-minute song for god's sake!

That's a delightful excess.

Could be a prog song, could not be, or it just could be a tune you farted after eating a can baked beans...

Velvet Underground have done some wierd songs, for example "The Gift" not musicly wise..just the last couple of lines of the lyrics...listen to it and you'll see......

Some early works of FRANK ZAPPA, and AMON DÜÜL II's "Phallus Dei" has some very insane and good parts in it.

I always start to laugh out loud, when there's some unsuspected bellowings and shrieks in music. F.ex. ZAPPA's "Tengo Na Minchia Tanta" from "Uncle Meat" has a very good aural missile within it.

Velvet Underground's Murder Mystery is one that stands out ...
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

Downloaded the song here by the Mars Volta (Eriatarka) to check out what they are like.  The first two runs through the chorus are INSANE!  A transcriber's nightmare.  Sounds like the vocalist is singing in 4/4, but damned if I know what the music is doing.  I do like the song though, very different....

anyone who's ever hear Ummagumma:

"Several Small Speciest of Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict"

the name is just as screwed up as the song.

Funny you brought this up, I just listened to Zappa's Lumpy Gravy and nearly went insane! His early, non-fusion stuff is just way too far out for my liking and that album easily proves that point.
Can you tell me where my country lies...
