What about that 1977 concept album Saturday Night Fever...?
![]() I have a very hard time separating the UZ debut and Low for pole (poll?) position... imvho. Many here I've not heard but always keen to learn more. Cheers. And I'm not even being influenced by A Farewell To Kings playing here right now... |

MARQUEE MOON!
Haha... Natural Elements by Shakti is just sublime, but wouldn't call it prog. National Health's debut, just awesome and original.

I gave him the opportunity once to adjust. He got all sarcastic on me and tried to pretend he had never said anything like that. I still resisted but he asked for it a second time, so I obliged. His denial is pretty brazen.

Hmm - Try not to be cruel, he may have made some statements he want to adjust, nothing wrong with that.

Oh, no, the problem is you said mostly in one place but already used the absolute in another. Since you love spoonfeeding, here you go again (and it's not so far down the thread that I already confronted you with your own words once):
Sorry, baby....you like crap, I hope you do know what you like. I think it would greatly help this thread if you could remember what you wrote and owned up to it instead of remaining in denial until you run out of options. |

^Christ! You can be worse at generalising than myself you know, and you you do it by simplyfying other people's opinions. Whenever I write mostly, mainly, sometimes, often... you just ignore it and recreate it into something absolute. You honestly don't believe that its possible to find out what "mainly" people listen to?
You are an inteligent man so I'm sure you can find plenty of examples on how you regularely do this.

My 77 favorite albums. (besides Floyd - i totaly agree they would allways get too many votes to be in a poll like yours) :
On PA:
Bill Bruford : Feels Good to Me The vocal works on this by Annette Peacock, moves it very high on my alltime J/R list
Aera : Hand und Fuss wonderfull mix of styles on this album
Alan Parsons Project : I Robot, trend setting POP prog album, Parsons finest.
Bowie : "Heroes" My big love for Mr. Fripp makes this one more enjoyable to me than Low.
Shakti : Natural Elements A masterpiece of East meets West.
Maby the best album of the year, but not on PA :
Joni Mitchell - Don Juan's Reckless Daughter
With a very potent Jaco Pastorius as a driving force.

Dark Elf's post was out of line but was a reaction to a condescending OP. However, there was nothing in his comment to provoke your thoughts on the everyman. You did that of your own accord. Don't try to make it appear now as if you were simply reacting to what was being dished out to you. Several times in this thread, you have made lofty generalisations without provocation.
Right, so let's break down the specifics...basically the Billboard Top 40 tells you what 'people' consume everywhere in the planet? Do you know what demographic the Billboard covers, do you really know its coverage is extensive enough? Er, do you know that Low hit no.11 in the US Billboards in 1977? An album that you believe the normal people are too dumb to give credit to already charted highly anyway. This is exactly why generalisations, as convenient as they are, are dangerous. You are probably going to rush to explain that that's not what you meant, but the damage is already done. |

^The fact that you think these generalisations are worse is beside the point. Its my own ugly generalisations about everyman, yes. But that was not waht my reaction to Dark Elf's post was about.
I don't have the time to find out what 4 billion people listen to, but I have the time to look at what sells and notice what gets airplay from year to year, which is the easiest way to get info about what "people" consume. And my elitist ears hear it as mostly crap.

I have racked up the more provocative parts of your comments a hundred times by now in this thread but since you insist on pretending to be unable to read them, here we go again:
And from the OP...
Basically, your posts are full of the no true scotsman fallacy and "everybody who doesn't share my premise is a stupid, everyday, normal man" seems to be your premise. You are free to believe so if you want to, but you cannot complain that people repeatedly keep reacting to such comments...for they well would. And...
Yeah, because the former is even worse. You have no idea what people really listen to. Where do you get the time to listen to music if you are busy trying to find out what 4 billion people on the planet listen to? Edited by rogerthat - October 24 2012 at 05:03 |

^Yes I was told I had called THOSE albums crap, but the worst thing I've wrote about them is that I don't like them. So I'm prepared to "face the music" according to what I wrote, not what you or anyone else read into it. You asked me to look up my own comments and that is what I found. Now its your turn to find them for me as I wasn't smart enough to find them on my own.
Saying something like people listen to crap is completely different than stating that GFTO, Animals and SFTW is crap, don't you think?

Oh, that's what you said about THOSE albums. There's a lot of other things you have said in the thread which may shape reactions to what you say, much more so actually. You know where to look for them, they are your posts. You have defended your stand on them repeatedly as well. I am not criticizing your stand per se, I just pointed out the hilarious inconsistency of seeking approval for your favourite albums from the same everyman that you mercilessly bash. All I am saying is there is no point complaining people should have read this post first or that one later, blah blah. It was you who wrote it, now face the music.

You're right, I might not be as intelligent as I think (if this is the way to find out about such things) so I'm afraid you got to help me out here. This is the worst I've written about these albums that I can find:

And what about grumbling that you shouldn't be blamed for such-and-such? You have to cop whatever you get for your comments, sorry. You are partly correct; you didn't specifically call any album crap in the OP but your subsequent comments seem to have aggravated the problem rather than address it. Now I am not going to post your comments individually at different parts of the thread and confront you with them. Since you fancy yourself so intelligent as to know what the historical position on 1977 is going to be in the future, I am sure reading and comprehending your own comments cannot be very difficult for you.

I can't see how you read that as not wanting people to respond. Except for added misunderstadings I thought Dark Elf's complaints was mostly the same thing twice from the same poster. And I guess I think that to have a valid opinion in an ongoing thread you need to read all of it. It might be boring but if you want to write something valid it really doesnt work any other way. Again, never did I call those albums in question crap. Not even in my OP, and I had already tried to clear up anything unclear about it.
