Having watched enough episodes of QI we must have learnt something from the Great Lord Fry by now... if only the correct pluralisation of octopus LOL (moral: you can learn from watching TV)

I love this one:
Quote Have you never been to an aquarium and watched them, they curl up into a lazy ball and sleep. Then being the lazy animal that they are, will eat on of there tentacles off instead of going and forage for food.
octopus is plural, octopi is singular.
Okay - not a huge belly-laugh, but still amusing that it's the 18% best answer.

-us is singular and -i is plural, however, octopus is not a Latin word, it's Greek so the plural should be octopudes though octopuses is the acceptable form (octopi is just being pretentious)

^ it seemed reasonable to me too, knowing that they were nocturnal and the biology of their eye is more "advanced" than ours (the don't have a blind-spot), so yes, I googled it to be sure:

Apparently, not only do they sleep, they enter a REM sleep phase and could possibly even dream.
What?

Do cephalopods (octopuses, squids, cuttle fish) sleep? My two year old nephew asked me about this yesterday. Instead of googling for an hour or two I ask you. Smile
