I think that would be an awesome idea. I am always looking out for new music.

Maybe it's just me, but I have never, ever found a "similar artists" feature useful. I think it's because I don't care so much what bands sound like other bands, I care that they excel at making their own music rather than copying the style of another band.
I love Jethro Tull, but I don't love them because they sound like other prog folk bands. I love them because they do prog folk really, really well. Another prog folk band that sounded like Jethro Tull would not interest me, unless they were remarkably great in their own way.

Good point, there's only a few exceptions. And these exceptions are usually rated incredibly high, so perhaps this idea is needless. Way better to find something completely different and unique then a great sound-alike.

Last.FM has this feature and it's executed well, imo. Just throwing that out there.

Because if you choose Genesis or Pink Floyd, it doesn't say current bands (or decently current bands) that took from their style.
I suppose the Recommendation Feature would be only useful on the giants of the 70's bands.

I don't think so. If the Recommendation Feature would be on each band's page, how would it be less random than having it in every bio?
Also i think each bio would have a section, separate possibly to show the similar bands. They wouldn't be included differently in every bio.

You're still having to surf through random bands to look at their biographies, see what they're compared to, but true.

Biographies could be edited to include some similar bands, and some already do. This might be easier?

I'm sure it'd be a lot of work, but I'm sure every member (or collaborator) could contribute to each band.
What I was thinking is on each band page, there's a small section of 'Recommended Albums/Bands of the same style' where it gives bands with a similar sound.
For example: choosing Camel and on recommended it shows: Asia Minor. I think you get what I'm saying. Doesn't have to be THAT similar, but perhaps like King Crimson and Birds and Buildings. There's strong similarities, but it's not an exact King Crimson sound-alike.
Like I said, it'd be a LOT of work, but it could really help out beginning proggers who would rather look at 'Recommended' instead of delve into album after album, looking for what they like.
There is a thread about Prog Recommendations, but that's one at a time and limited.
