I'll go with Deep Red on this one since it's a brilliant thriller that deserves more attention. Classic giallo movie that held my full attention by the throat in over two hours. Taxi Driver and the Holy Grail are runnerup's. Other favorites from the 70's includes Alien, They Call me Trinity, Dirty Harry, Chinatown, Blazing Saddles, Deer Hunter, Animal House, and of course Norway's own crown jewel, Pinchcliffe Grand Prix.

I'll vote for Apocalypse Now.
Extremely boring and overrated in my opinion
Looking thorugh my personal movie ratings, I find:
The Wicker man (1973) Robin Hardy Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970) jaromil jires
Jabberwocky (1971) Jan Svankmajer (short movie)
Picnic at hanging Rock (1975) Peter Weir
Images (1973) Robert Altman
Barry Lyndon (1975) Kubrik
The Tenant (1975) Polanski
Mannen På taket (1976) Bo Widerberg
Omen (1976) Richard Donner
The Last Wave (1977) Peter Weir
Sorcerer (1977) William Friedkin - with great music by Tangerine Dream!
Alien (1979) Ridely Scott
Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht (1979) Werner Herzog
Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979) Hayao Miazaki
I would have recommended Star Wars and Aguirre too, but it wasn't among your favourites I see.

I like those two. I guess some of my favourites that spring to mind of the conspiracy thriller ilk are Boys From Brazil, Marathon Man and Serpico. |

I voted for Salo. It's disturbing and controversial, even more so when one considers that Pasolini was murdered not long after it, but I think it poignant.
I easily could have gone with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest which I find ultimately really powerful, great, great film -- I actually preferred the film to the book, but I expect that to get plenty of recognition in the poll. So many excellent films on display in this poll. Edited by Logan - July 23 2012 at 00:12 |

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is definitely one of the best films ever made.
Also, you should see Barry Lyndon. I think it's the most well made of Kubrick's films, if not my personal favorite. |

Now let's move on to the older ones. First some aclarations for those who might ask:
Kubrick: I don't mind that much for A Clockwork Orange. I haven't seen Barry Lyndon yet.
Tarkovsky: I appreciate the visual aspect of his films, but he is not among my favorites.
Jodorowsky: I haven't seen any of his works yet.
China Town, Star Wars, Aguirre aren't among my favorites either.
I haven't seen as many films from the 70's and older than that, as much as from the 80's onwards. So there might be a lot of great movies you might suggest that I haven't seen.
