God bless Jon Lord. It was sad to see him go. Death is not the end but a glorious transition. Spirit lives on beyond this human vessel. May he rock the heavens with his musical fingers! |

I've been away up in the mtns for a number of days and just now got home, cking into the news Sad sad indeed. Aurora CO theatre shooting, Jon Lord passing last week
I will just sit tight today and regroup. Jon's Hammond was distinctive for DP and his playing style was unequaled, the swells and Leslie technique -superb. Being a huge fan of orchestral pieces with rock etc. I am listening to the 1999 DP & LSO concert and am blown away by it. Not sure why I never listened to it previously but it's nice to discover these gems ! God Speed Jon Lord.... |

If you want to know what an asset to band this guy was, look at the recordings of him in Whitesnake, who were a soulful blues heavy rock band. Without him, a hair band with shallow keyboards |

What an imposing legacy Jon leaves behind! I fell in love with the Hammond B3 at a very early age and he was one of the first to make it sound like an uncaged behemoth on a rampage so I gravitated to Deep Purple without resistance and became one of their biggest fans. He didn't let his classical upbringing interfere with his urge to rock & roll but allowed the two influences to mingle and produce sounds previously unheard. When he took a solo it was no step down from what Blackmore was shredding on the other side of the stage and that's saying a lot right there. Thank you, Jon Lord, for being a magnificent musician, a progressive pioneer and for showing us all how it's done. Rest in Peace.

Deep Purple was the first band I ever got into, and it actually took me a while to realize that the guitar was one of the things they were most famous for, but that is because my first stereo system had a short on one of the speakers - the one that always featured Blackers. So I got a good dose of Jon Lord during that very early time. There was a period where I disparaged his playing, but I have long since learned the error of that attitude. Jon could rock. Jon could roll. Jon helped to save my soul. I mourn his passing yet celebrate his music. Rock on Jon, rock on. May your (highway) star never be forgotten.

I've never been DP fan (not as much as my dad), but this stuff from Lord is very good too - the legendary "Stop" song and hippie hymn from The Flower Pot Men about Frisco

My dad turned me on to Deep Purple long ago with Fireball. I've been a fan ever since with In Rock being my favorite album. His solo in Hard Loving Man was fantastic. He is one of the keyboard greats and will be missed deeply

Another sad passing of the great musician. I remember 30 years ago when I heard Purples In Rock for the first time and how I listened with open mouth to his fantastic keyboard playing. And now another piece of my youth is gone... :-(

Sad indeed. The first of my real keyboard heros to leave us. His music will live on as his legacy for eons I have no doubt.
Jon, I thank you for being an integral part of the sound track to my youth and all parts of my life since.. |

I've never been much into Deep Purple... but I did go to see Jon Lord with a symphonic orchestra in November 2010. That was a great gig... I still have the ticket. Damn!

. That's so sad.
I knew he had an illness, but what I didn't knew is that he was about to die. Sad news. RIP So what comes next, Tony Iommi will die from his lymphoma.
