Not prog. Used to be lapped up by the Goths. Very good though! World music really IMO.
Were they responsible for the Gladiator soundtrack or part thereof?? I'm sure Lisa Gerrards name appears in the credits??...Or is it Brendon Perry, I cant f*cking remember.....

Great band, I would vote for the missing category Undecided. The problem with a category like Art Rock is that almost any band who do not produce your typical mainstream music can be included.

I voted no... But I'm not 100% sure. I've only heard a few of their songs and they sound more like some kinda ambient sounding music to me.

they aren't prog, they are more world music and gothic, and they were unique, they were a start point in matching styles. a very nice band that has reached it's end.

Geez Jim, you crazy blighter! It just occurred to me that it's just as well that you don't have any progeny! Judging from the rather disturbing entry above, you would apparently put heroin in the poor little tyke's baby bottle, before skulking off to the all-night danceclub! For shame!
I guess that on the Waterboys' "Old England," when Mike Scott sings "children stare with heroin eyes," he's referring to your neighbourhood daycare, eh wot?
(And don't bother trying to cover your twisted tracks by telling me that "smack botties" refers to spanking! I know what you meant, sicko, and besides, spanking is illegal here too!)

^ Hey, no "smack" (or even laudanum) for me, Jim -- I'm trying to cut down on the opiates!
I still think that DCD are as much (if not more) "prog" as Zappa or Dream Theater are.
(But I really don't care -- there are plenty of great, unarguably prog acts to review here!)

DCD is a great band, but I don't consider it as a prog band. However, Mr. Rideout has a point about the similarities towards other styles like jazz-fusion. Me myself think it's brilliant to see those bands in here. However, I consider jazz-fusion closer to prog than DCD, mostly because of the instrumentation and the musicians in those bands.
By the way, it would be really nice not to see a comment about Mariah Carey in every thread. I know it's fun, but there are already a few threads dedicated to it (her), please keep it in there.

Ya'know Max, that would be wonderful punishment for the dictionary weilding professor. Next time he trips up, a few hours of listening to a Mariahcareyathon would straighten the old bugger right up.
If that doesn't work, perhaps some Celine Dion would be in order?

I don't bellieve they don't belong to the genre called Progressive Rock, they are an excellent Celtic/Folk/Gothic/Medieval band with some progressive characteristics.
Even though I believe Dead Can Dance and Miranda Sex Garden could be included as Art Rock, there are other bands here that in my opinion are farther from Prog' than them.
Some Gothic bands are very close to the spirit of progressive rock.
But if you ask me if I believe they are prog', I must say I don't think so

^ Ha! That would especially please Ms Carey's (misscarries?) record company, young nephew Jordo!
Please Max, don't make me review that sh*te!
(Actually, it would probably be fun! You thought my Styx review was nasty? You ain't seen nuffin yet!)
Oops, now I've let the kitty out of the bag! It's true, assorted Newbies: I don't really like Mariah's Mew-sick! Can you ever forgive me?

I voted yes!
Jazz fusion, Zappa, and so-called "progressive metal" are (generally) accepted as "prog" here, so why not DCD?
Whoops! The worms are escaping the confines of the can!
Problem: "Progressive" music remains undefined in any practical, workable sense (and will likely continue so) and the categorization of music is a very subjective thing!
