I don't Really mind what kind of prog music I listen to.  But There are exceptions.

My favorite catogaries are...

Symphonic, Art Rock, Some Folk and to a lesser extent Metal,

I'm very tolerant.

My neighbors voted for Bush, and we're still on speaking terms.

I could go for any of the options depending on how I feel at the time I was asked. I moslty listen to early to mid 70s stuff, and although I feel that Symphonic Prog is the purest form of the genre, I'll listen to pretty much anything  thats progressive. it's all good

I mostly listen to 70s prog. After that it lost its uniqueness and became too mainstream.

Many would say that I have open view of what prog is....
(voted the last)
I listen most to prog metal, but I don't see that type of prog as better than the others...

I like most of the genres, depends on the mood.  For the last time, I've been listening to a lot of fusion and post-rock, bu t I really like the other genres too (although I'm not really into Neo-progressive or Progmetal, though  Fantômas is great).

My musical interests are very broad as a whole, not just amongst prog.

So, I have no real preferences.

I don't have any preferences among the genres (although I know some more than others, but only because it is easier to obtain some genres of music more than others) , and I don't care whether something is 'prog' or not, I prefer the term 'music'.

  • Art Rock (great sometimes but mostly boring (with the exception of Supertramp)
  • Canterbury/RIO/Avant-Prog (usually good)
  • Electronic Music (JM Jarre)
  • Experimental/Post-Rock (haven't heard much)
  • Fusion (great)
  • Italian Symphonic Prog
  • Kraut Rock (nah..)
  • Neo Progressive (haven't heard much)
  • Prog Folk (Jethro Tull, Strawbs & Gryphon)
  • Progressive Metal (Symphony X, Dream Theater etc.)
  • Psychedelic/Space Rock (Pink Floyd)
  • Symphonic Prog (Genesis, GG, Yes, ELP, King Crimson, need I say more?)
  • Zeuhl (nah..)
  • =Great, among my favorite genres

    = Good to excellent

    = OK

    = Hmm...

    = Ouch...not my style

    = Haven't heard something

Although I like the idea of subgenres, in some ways it is quite confusing. If for example you were to play VGG to someone (as Baldjean was indicating) without telling them what subgenre the music had been categorised, they could give a number of answers.

I think you need a degree in the subject to work it all out

and I'm far from finished the degree yet.

Well, i like most genres. However, I don't like Prog metal nor Kraut rock. I have had only slight encontours with Italian Prog (but i like what i heard) and with Zeuhl (not bad). I love symphonic, canterbury (i'll never spell that right), most fusion, art rock, and prog folk. All the others that are left i like, to various degrees.
