Classical music is way too good, should classical music be on this website? Okay, lets put it right next to Joe when he gets here, and Vai.

Yeah, me too.

And he also kicks Vai's *ss.

The reverse is true. They both kick ass, but in terms of prog Vai is WAY ahead.

Check out the sample (link in my sig).

I see  That we agree in this point

but all in all I don't see a point in including Satriani to the list
On the other hand there are many strange bands which shouldn't be here like Nightwish or Rhapsody
bands which present  complex structure in their compositions but thesis : they are progressive
is totally incorect from my point of view

In this case Satriani deserves to be included more than typical powermetal .

I love Satriani, maybe even more than Vai, but he's definitely not Prog for me.

You should definitely listen to his music first before posting your prejudice here ... Satriani IMO is the exact opposite of Malmsteen.

prejudice

noun

  1. An inclination for or against that inhibits impartial judgment: bias, one-sidedness, partiality, partisanship, prepossession, tendentiousness. See affect/ineffectiveness, like/dislike, straight/bent.
  2. Irrational suspicion or hatred of a particular group, race, or religion: bigotry, intolerance. See like/dislike.

I just have to agree with Mike here. They are poles apart! Malmsteen plays Bach influenced Neo-Classical style! Can you hear that in Satriani's playing at all!!!

Watch G3 with Satriani/Vai/Malmsteen and see and here How different those three are!

I agree with you guys, he doesn't sound like Malmsteen or Moore (and yeah, there's a hint of Hackett in there), but I don't think Greenback meant anything wrong here, he did say he likes Satriani a lot.

He's not really prog though, more than Malmsteen, but less than Vai.

i think their both not prog. and i'm not so sure about the "prog related" cateorgy...

Do you know Flexable? Satriani never did anything even remotely as prog as that.

Joe Satriani is my favourite guitar player. Although I love his music, I don't think that he should be included in this site.

I guess you mean this song:

Tears In The Rain

I disagree with your opinion ... and I am sick of your dogmatic campaign against modern music.

Edit: I'm playing this song right now ... nice tune.

Malmsteen plays in a very different style than Satriani...he is really more into sweeping style and neo classical pompous, boring symphonic metal. Satriani has a very typicall american style, hard rock with accessible, commercial, catchy melodies (he is a great technical guitarist but except his two first albums he has no feeling at all, moreover he can't play on classical guitar)

He's quite innovative ... but Vai is more diverse. But they both have lots of soul.

i dont know dude, he maybe got a soul, but for me its like he is "fake"- i dont know how to explain that...

Which Satriani albums do you know (not just from some mp3s, but in detail)?
