I'm not entirely certain what was meant by "lol metheny". Feel free to clarify Polo when you get back on. I found the collaboration with the Meth man pretty cool. And then there was that whole crack train from New York, which they felt compelled to explain in the liner notes as not being about crack cocaine. "Synth rock albums" by Pierre Henry??? Except from two (2) tracks from Messe pour le temps présent, I hardly heard or read about his discography including "boss synth rock albums". Musique concrète, of course, since he worked with Pierre Schaeffer, but synth rock... |

Kind of depends on how you define prog. I think he's Country and Western. I don't know which country and I'm not certain where west really is.

If there's any composer that should be on this site it's Pierre Henry for electronic prog, because he put out some boss synth rock albums and lots of electronic musique concrète

I beg to differ.
HUGE minimalist fan here. Though I'm more of a Philip Glass and John Adams man meself, Reich is definitely awesome. Also not prog

Exactly ... or Miles Davies, Chick Corea, Jan Garbarek...or maybe I am crazy, maybe they're not jazz icons ?
Isn't jazz much older and VERY DIFFERENT music than rock'n'roll? Edited by Svetonio - January 17 2012 at 13:10 |

univers zero (based only on my experience of ceux des dehors is not rock, but is here, and there are certainly more examples...

Terry Riley is on PA? WHAT
There is a sh*tload (or f**kton, not sure which is bigger) of modern classical composers that are more progressive than anything on this site but that don't mean we should include them. It's got to be some sort of rock music, right?
First one. lol metheny Edited by Polo - January 17 2012 at 10:14 |

Who let all of this riff raff into the room? Being a fan of Glass and Reich I still can't advocate for their inclusion. I haven't gotten to know Riley though. I know Riley Freeman from Boondocks better. Edited by Slartibartfast - January 17 2012 at 08:58 |

All major serious music composers progressed music - but then using the semantics of the website where's the "rock" element? Andrew Lloyd Weber on Desert island Discs, included Shostakovitch's 1st Cello Concerto, by stating it was the first "rock concerto". Could be but doesn't justify inclusion here. Terry Riley, could be special case as he has recorded a lot of his own work, and then for example Rainbow In Curved Air, Church of Anthrax are included in the "rock canon" and well as being referenced by various musicians - Townshend, Ratledge, and of course Curved Air

Yes, because this great composer is widely accepted by the proggers. Of course he's not rock, but that argument is not valid for not addition to PA because in PA are so many others great artists who are also not rock at all, but they are here because they are accepted by Progressive Rock fanatics or (and) because they are influential to the genre.

This - maybe change "maybe" to "no" Very few artists last that long in way of listning, anything above 20-25 min (vinyl side), only the few chosen one's. I can have a Gentle Gaint day, or a Fripp (crimson) day. Zepplin hours, ect. Cant imagine i'll ever end up havin a Reich sunday.
