Summers End - Believe and day line-ups announced

News of the Summers End Festival at the Town Hall, Lydney 28-30 September 2012

We are delighted to announce the second band in our Friday night international double header, the brilliant Believe from Poland.  With three further albums under their belts since their debut in 2006 not to mention two live DVDs, the band who were formed by former Collage guitarist Mirek Gil, have a reputation for making atmospheric, dynamic, melodic  progressive rock.  Their sound is enhanced by the terrific violin playing of Satomi.  Their music should compliment that of Moon Safari brilliantly, and should make for a fantastic evening.

Nooooooooo!Cry I was so looking forward to see Anglagard. Oh well, I certainly remember White WIllow's performance in 2006 (my first gig, would you believe) and have been a big fan of anything Lars and Jacob have done since, will be very pleased to see Wobbler perform.

News of the Summers End Festival at the Town Hall, Lydney 28-30 September 2012

It is with huge regret that we have to announce that Anglagard will not now be playing Summers End.  This is due to circumstances within the band which have led them to truncate their live appearances this year.  The band have asked us to pass on their apologies to those who, like us, were looking forward to seeing them this year.

However, we have an worthy replacement  in Norway's Wobbler, who will be making their first live appearance in the UK. Like Anglagard, the band make music drenched in vintage instruments and the spirit of the 70s.  After two albums "Hinterland" and "Afterglow" released in 2005 and 2009 respectively, the band changed direction slightly with 2011s rapturously-received "Rites of Dawn" with reviewers citing Yes and Gentle Giant as clear influences.  Long-term Summers End attendees will remember keyboard player Lars Frederik Froislie's appearance with his other band White Willow in 2006.

·         Standard Weekend ticket: £68

To come soon - details of our second band for Friday night - another overseas band with a great pedigree - plus our openers and the full weekend schedule.

We hope to put day tickets will go on sale in a couple of weeks - look out for further announcement shortly!

News of the Summers End Festival at the Town Hall, Lydney 28-30 September

We are very excited to announce two significant - and unusual - additions to the festival line up this time round with the announcement of Nomzamo 25 and Cyan.

Nomzamo 25 will feature Paul Menel on vocals, John Jowitt on bass and a rare appearance by former IQ keyboardist Martin Orford and will revolve around an unique performance of songs from this much-loved IQ album.  Joining them will be members of Paul's band  and several other special guests to the revealed in the next few weeks.  This will be the only full electric gig in the UK by this line up and so will never be repeated. It is therefore not to be missed. More details as we get them!

www.paulmenel.com

Cyan, as many will know,  was the pre-Magenta prog project of Rob Reed and marks the start of a new beginning for the band that recorded 3 albums in the 1990s and never played live.  Rob takes up the story:

"I was always very proud of the CYAN back catalogue with three CDs that were made when prog was really a dirty word. In March of this year we dusted down a couple of the instrumentals and played them live as part of an "Evening with Magenta" for the CRS. It was great fun. So when we were asked if we fancied playing a whole set at Summers End, it seemed a great opportunity to give some of this material its first airing live. I've commandeered Chris Fry form Magenta, alongside Dan Nelson and Steve Roberts from Godsticks to help me in this outing. Lead vocals will be provided  by Steffan Rhys Williams. Steffan has an outstanding voice and is fine all round multi instrumentalist. We plan to play a selection of material form all three albums, and maybe something new….we'll see……"

·         Sponsors Ticket - for those that want to put a little extra into the festival.  Recipients will get a special sponsors T-shirt.  £85

·         Standard Weekend ticket: £68

As the festival came close to a sell out last year, early purchasing is recommended! Day tickets will go on sale later in June.

Unfortunately Sunchild continue to suffer the same visa issues that prevented them playing last year, so have decided to pull out at an early stage this year to prevent giving us the problems their late withdrawal caused us last year.  We thank them for their decency and hope to work with them in the future.  We have a very strong replacement lined up and will announce them in the next couple of days.  Expect the rest of the line up to be finalised in the next couple of weeks.

We are very excited to announce our Saturday Night headliners THE CRYPTIC CLUES.  Following the band's triumphant "debut" gig at the Peel a few months ago, we are thrilled to feature their second live appearance.  The band comprises Twelfth Night founder members Brian Devoil, Clive Mitten and Andy Revell alongside long tern collaborator Mark Spencer and Galahad keyboard player Dean Baker.  Their set will consist largely of early Twelfth Night material, culled from the Live at the Target, Fact and Fiction and Live at Let Live albums.  The band are promising us that this will be their biggest gig of the year featuring a full multimedia extravaganza. With Anglagard in the Saturday special guest slot, this will make for a day not to be missed!

Tickets will go on sale in early May from www.summersend.co.uk . Look out for a specific date shortly  plus news of our last few bands!

News of the Summers End Festival at Lydney Town Hall on September 28-30.

Two major announcements this time round!

First of all, our Sunday headliners will be 70s legends The Enid. The band are currently going through a resurgence which culminated in a spectacular concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall in October 2011.  While we won’t be able to fit the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra into Lydney Town Hall, we are promised something special to close the festival, and no doubt the band will deliver, as they have done for almost 40 years!

www.theenid.co.uk

By way of complete contrast, we are also very excited to welcome back to the UK, by popular demand, the spectacular Moon Safari.  Having stolen the show at Winters End in 2010, this young and exciting Swedish band has wowed audiences worldwide with their summery and supremely melodic prog, topped off by remarkable harmonies.  Their latest album “The Gettysburg Address” was recorded during their headline performance at Rosfest in 2011.

More news, including our Saturday headliner and ticket sales to follow very soon, as well as news of the full Fused line up!

I dont think it exactly sells out, but it does get quite full.

As for the spouse, I'll leave that for someone else to answer.

I always think about going to this festival, but now you've booked Anglagard I have no choice. In fact I'm more than a little excited. First TAAB2 and now this.

Does anyone know if this festival usually sells out?

And is it the sort of festival where a non-prog spouse could find something to do? Or should I leave her at home?
