I did a search and found nothing on Arena. I guess I am mainly asking because I see they have a new one coming out, or out already, and was just curious as to if there are any fans here. For my part I have always tried to figure out if I like them or not. Obviously in the beginning it seemed they were trying to be Marillion Mach 3 (since there was a Mach 2 with H by then), and more along the lines of what some had hoped Marillion would have become.
I always struggled with them, though. Listening to Pointer vs Mosely it was never much of a question as to why Pointer got the boot, and some of that spills into Arena. Pointer was always a little bit of a bland drummer. I do appreciate where he has tried to take the band, in a sort of almost industrialized, metalized version of Prog. They have their own sound for sure, but that sound kind of starts to sound the same after a little while.
All of this being said, I always felt so bad for poor Mick that I will probably always continue to give Arena my money. I missed Pepper's Ghost, but have a feeling I will be grabbing that at the same time I grab the new one.
So, any fans? Did I miss a previous thread?
