Mike, I think that you and I must have been the only 2 who liked Enterprise, because everyone else seemed to hate it. |

I really liked Enterprise ... the only thing that's really pissing me off is that they won't release them on blu-ray. And screw you, whoever's responsible for cancelling the show prematurely.

The original has no competition. DS9 is probably the best of the new ones, although it takes the most time to get into. TOS is my favourite TV show

Have only recently finished watching all the episodes of the animated series (which as Bob indicates, was a surprisingly gruelling feat). That now means that I've seen every moment of every episode of all 6 series, plus the 11 movies of course. Wish there was more.
Original series was the most revolutionary, and Next Generation gradually evolved into something magnificent, but I still believe DS9 to be greatest television series ever made. Stunning storytelling, great character depth/evolution and subplots, etc.

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”
"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present." |

I think the original series appealed to me mostly due the actors which I liked, the late 60's aesthetics, the picture of time when they were made, and the fun pioneering spirit; F.ex. episodes like "Piece of Action" with 20's gangster planet society, "that's cetainly sky-fi".
I couldn't bear the next generation episodes I saw from templevision, and the pilots of other series didn't appear interesting. Thus I think I'm not very strong with sci-fi interest currently, though appreciate this movement.

Have to go with the Original, because it was the original and did have some amazing episodes. TNG is a close second, also a lot of great stories. DS9 had it's moments, but also had some odd story lines.

DS9 for me. It took me a long time to get into it, but the strong underlying story which develops through the 7 series was superbly intertwined with the (mostly) stand alone story in each episode.
I don't think the original series has stood up well to the test of time. TNG and Voyager were both excellent, but Enterprise was weak, leading to the demise of the franchise.
As for the cartoon, it was awful. Every week was the same basic story about someone getting kidnapped. The opportunities for more adventurous images and stories afforded by using cartoons was woefully wasted.

I was brought up on the original series, and still love it. However, Season Three onwards of TNG contained some of the finest TV sci-fi of all time, so this gets my vote.

*supersonic* I guess with the predefined structure of a saucer section and two engine nacelles limits what can be done with the basic design and still make it "enterprise" shape - 50s and 60s fictional space craft design still required "streamlining" to depict speed - it wasn't until 2001 A Space Odyssey in 1968 that the general public came to accept there is no friction in space so streamlining is uncessary.
I have to admit I was getting into the third series of ENT then just forgot to watch it one week and never picked it up again.
I voted for DS9, but I was also a big B5 fan so that's hardly a surprise - having the adventures centring on a focal point of a star-base rather than a ship flying through space randomly finding adventures just seemed more realistic (if SF can ever be considered realistic)

Nobody has guts to vote for Enterprise
i have to admit season 3 was picking up. But that really was a let down due to dull characters. Worse captain and also pretty dire scripts, without a lot of action or diversity. The show suffered like no other Trek series and only lasted 4 seasons unlike Next Gen, DS9 and Voyager's 7 seasons. I think the prob was they put the series before Kirks era and it didnt make any sense having a supersonic looking ship when the 60s series was such basic technology.
