True. But I love how unapologetic it is in its formulaic, desperately "lo-fi", lowest-common-denominator, stereotypical way.

Not to mention the most incompetent Gestapo men in history - Himmler's nephew, Otto Flik & the brilliantly named Englebert Von Smallhausen

It was a silly comedy full of silly and predictable and repetitive jokes but I watched it every single week and found it hilarious as a teenager.

The German chap with the little tank was always amusing as he was so blatantly gay.

But I had a thing for Helga (Kim Hartmann)... especially in her underwear.

And that poor old fallen Madonna with ze big boobies...

It was a great show, yes, but personally I don't think anything he wrote would ever top Dad's Army.

I like Dad's Army too. The humour in that series was maybe a bit more diverse than in 'Allo Allo. Still, me personally, I prefer 'Allo 'Allo.

I would descend into a childish fit of giggles every time the policeman said "good moaning".

Rene's response - "Well, in that case, could you please speak slowly?".

Crass, ridiculous and brilliant! Loved it.

'Twas a fun show.  The episodes were virtually interchangeable (every episode had all the same jokes) but that was part of its charm.  And you gotta love Officer Crabtree.

Klop!
