"As a note these speakers can't be bi-wired, but i thought about using the bi-wire, as it means i get a better quality of wire for £8.97 for 3 metres (then split into 2 x 3 metres) than buying 2 x 3 metre cables at £1.99 per metre (£11.94). I know its a petty difference, but you know how it is."

You can buy nude bi wired cables and sold them together in order to get one cable with double thickness.
Use WBT silver solder to do it.

Dont see why that wouldnt work if its the cheapest solution. Just be careful with your Stanley knife when you cut.

Hi all, back again.

I know this is probably the wrong forum, but no-one ever seems to respond to posts in the other lounges, so i thought i'd post my question here.

I've just managed to pick up an old hi-fi system: Marantz Stereo Amplifier Tunner ST353L, Philips 723 CD Player, Marantz HD 180 2 Way Speakers and Jamo Surround Rear Speakers.

Basically the main speakers are wired up and its playing beautifully, spent the day cleaning the whole lot inside and out taking it all to pieces.  Anyway i had some wires for the little jamo speakers, but it was basically bell wire, so i got rid of it.  Now they require new wires and i'm only a student so i don't want to spend much.  I probably need 2 sets of 3 metre cables so i can have a surround sound system.

So here comes my question, if i buy the GALE XL 160 BI-Wire cables at £2.99 per metre at richer sound and split them up from one 3 metre cable with four 315 strand copper wires and cut the cable down the middle to create 2 seperate 3 metre cables would that work, or would there be potential problems that i'm overlooking.

As a note these speakers can't be bi-wired, but i thought about using the bi-wire, as it means i get a better quality of wire for £8.97 for 3 metres (then split into 2 x 3 metres) than buying 2 x 3 metre cables at £1.99 per metre (£11.94).  I know its a petty difference, but you know how it is.

Anyway thanks for any feed back, i'm probably being rather dense, but i'm no expert on hi fi equipment and just wanted to get as decent a sounding system as cheaply as possible.
