Topic: Some nooby amateur works... Posted: February 04 2017 at 08:20
Hello, your potential as a musician is nothing short of great! It's obviously made out of poor equipment, but if you can trip to it is evidence that the musical gene is in you.
If someone enjoys a piece, chances are very high that other people will also enjoy it as much. The only fan a musician will need is himself, though it is reassuring when people he respects also enjoy what he does.
Only time can tell us if we really love a piece, and how much we'd like to put into.
...Most importantly, the more we love what we do, the less we'll care about others' opinions!!!

Hi Propu - there's some really nice ideas in there. The problem I had with it is that I suspect you'd drawn a lot of the notes in with a MIDI editor, so the expression wasn't there ! ;-) Apologies if I'm wrong, but that's the impression I got. As such, it sounded "overquantised" to me.
If your keyboard skills aren't quite up to playing live, a good trick is to play a short phrase, say four bars, into your DAW. Just keep doing it and erasing it until you get it right. You can cut the MIDI sections up on the bar lines and it'll all stay in relative time, just cut and paste. This means that you get a sense that someone is playing the piece, rather than a machine. Don't use the quantise function of your DAW, timing errors are fine, it's all part of your personality.
Some great ideas in there, you're doing great. ;-) You don't have to agree with me, by the way, I'm an old fart, but well done and do post more music. ;-)
Hi Propu, I am from South Africa. I have only listened to "Black Sheep" so far, but I am really impressed, particularly because you a so young! This is, in my view, truly progressive and very interesting to listen to. I suppose this is MIDI and keyboard-based? I am a keyboard player and wish I had your chops!
I love the way that the composition starts out deceptively repetitive, but then just keeps on building and changing into a complex, dramatic piece of music. As soon as I have time, I will be back to listen to more. My only complaint is that I visited this forum, hoping that the standard of amateur music posted here would not be that high, so I would feel ok to post one or two of my pieces. Having heard yours, I realize that I have a lot of room for improvement, before I dare to post anything!

So, as I've already seen that some people have put their own compositions on this forum (my greatest compliments to them), I'd like to do the same.
Since I live in a very small Italian town (Udine), it's really hard to find progressive rock lovers or even progressive rock players. That means that I had to do everything alone, and I used a nabby program known as GuitarPro. Yep, that one with sh*tty instrument simulation sound quality. So you better don't expect anything astonishing/great/wonderful.
I guess my main influence by far is Ayreon, but I think you should be able to tell me more about my influences lol.
I'll post some youtube files and some MU ones. That's because some youtube links have the newest version of the songs, while not every song has been uploaded on youtube yet. Grats if you've understood this last sentence :D
I just want to ask you to listen this knowing the humility in which I worked (and in which I'm still working). Oh and if you're interested in my age, I'm 18.
I have made 7 songs so far but I have uploaded only five on them on youtube. That's because the last two have to be fixed a bit somewhere...
Now please, PLEASE, tell me all the bad things you heard, I want to hear them more than the good ones. If you think "OMFG this is totally awful!", SAY IT T_T
