Topic: Rush Voted #1 Greatest Live Act Posted: December 11 2011 at 10:01 |
I have to say when these lists come out, they are just that, a list. A bunch of company people got together and said 'hey it's time to do a best of list' usually to boost views /sales. What other purpose is there to put one together ? Everyone has their favorite and everyone will dispute the list at one point or another. As a veteran of the touring industry I can honestly say that Rush does have a great production. The best ? IMHO, No. Some artists mentioned above are also very very good. But there are too many ambiguous factors to do such a list, putting one group at the top. We are talking music and personal tastes. Add in the fact that many musically stellar groups would like to do big productions but cannot because of label budgeting for tours. To me lists like this are as meaningless as award shows.

Glad to see prog bands are far above in the list compared to some of the beginning acts.

Some complain about ticket prices....but you do not get short changed at a Rush show.

But you're ok with Kanye and Muse? O_o Coldplay does put on an excellent live show, I personally think you just don't like the music which if that's the case, just say that.

Kanye puts on a show.

Not sure that's entirely true, however I get your point.

^ A good question, its a magazine that focuses on musicians and not biased to one genre for sure, but I think it is heavier to rock in general rather than hip hop/r&b or jazz. I read the articles/interviews pretty much, I am not a musician so I don't have interest in the equipment they discuss or promote. Their tagline is "The No 1 website for musicians".
I do like the list, don't think its awful at all, because it does have a variety of artists so I don't get the sense it is about just pop music....I mean Lady Gaga was #19, seems this list was not compiled by a bunch of kids or radio stations.
Just the fact that an artist like Porcupine Tree are in the top 10 tells me it was very well done..it was a poll voted on by the readers of the magazine. One has to assume a lot of the readers are musicians.
I would say that is a pretty good set of voters.

Awful list. There's no band in it I'd really want to see. Was it a public poll? In that case I'd respect it as the expression of a certain demographic. (But what mag/website has a demographic that encompasses prog fans, r&b and rap fans? )
