Topic: Your favorite movie Posted: June 30 2005 at 05:31 |
Mulholland Drive has nothing on Blue Velvet.
"Pretty pretty.... pretty pretty. Paul, candy colored clown. You are f**king lucky beautiful, huh? Look at me. Candy colored clown. Don't be a good neighbor to her - I'll send you a loveletter. Straight from my heart, f**ker! Do you know what a loveletter is? It's a bullet from a f**king gun, f**ker. You'll receive a loveletter from me and you're f**ked forever. Do you understand, f**k? I'll send you straight to hell! In dreams... i walk with you. In dreams... i talk to you. In dreams, you're mine. All.. forever in dreams. Feel my muscles... huh? Feel them! Huh? You like that?! Hold him tight for me".
Frank is the all time best villain.

I have narrowed my favourites down to 5:
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (ahead of it's time - a scifi masterpiece)
- Pulp Fiction (Tarantino is a brilliant script writer)
- Fargo (I love the "Black Humor")
- American Beauty (easily one of the best movies of the last decade)
- Mulholland Drive (A David Lynch "mind blowing" experience to rival his
"Blue Velvet")
There are so many others I would like to list and to name them would take up heaps of space. I think that most forum members choices so far (including Snow Dog's - ) are top notch.

I like all of those too. You'll probably laugh at this, but my favorite is DUNE. Close second: Fletch. |
Hi Shaden and welcome to the forum
No - I love Dune - I know it was a box office flop but it has a huge cult following and deservedly so. Fletch is great too but not as great as those on my list or Dune
Cheers

Revenge of the Sith, followed closely by Attack of the Clones. What can I say? I'm a nerd.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

HURRAH!!! You've covered all the bases! Brazil is my all time favorite, and I love 12 Monkeys, too. Terry Gilliam is a genius! I also love his previous work with Python. Holy Grail and Meaning are my favorites. I also love the Star Wars movies and The Matrix (but only the first one).

My God, you're all lost...
My three favorites are The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Ed Wood, and Clockwork Orange. Dead Man, Sideways, Donnie Darko, Brazil, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Dark Crystal, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, The Nightmare Before Christmas, 2001: A Space Oddyssey, Dr. Strangelove, Sleepy Hollow, and Edward Scissorhands are all great films, too.
I once was a huge movie nerd until I discovered prog. I always have to be a nerd for something.

I don't really like The Deer Hunter! I'll watch it again sometime and see if I can "get it"
|
It has been criticised for putting forward a very slanted, partizan view of the US involvement in the Vietnam war, which while true, isn't entirely fair, as Cimino attempted to portray the war solely through the eyes of poorly educated, coloquial blue collar steel workers from the mid West... as such he did a great job, and it deserves its place as a seminal movie of 70's Hollywood.... It's very moving.

What, better than The Godfather Pts I & II? I don't think so...
|
I too love Fight Club and Godfather I & II.......favourite is not the same as best.
|
A point I've been trying to make
|
That's because Golden Spaniel says that Fight Club is the BEST... he doesn't say his favourite. It maybe his favourite, but it certainly isn't the best.. probably not even in the top 100 BEST of all time. I stand by everything I've said in this thread.... so there...
|
Fight Club: top 50 easily......
|
That's just one of things we'll never agree on; but then I bet 'Manhattan' wouldn't be in your top 5, would it?
|
Top 50,easily.
And no,I dont do appeasement
|
I'd be quite disappointed in you if you did...
