If you enjoy avant garde music even in the slightest, Gorguts is for you. "The Erosion of Sanity" is the perfect blend of traditional old-school metal with a massively progressive twist, and "Obscura" is sheer musical chaos! Gorguts never disappoints!

I remember listening to Gorguts and thinking it was pretty good, but I can't really recall anything else about it. Guess I'll have to give i another listen.

Even after taking nine years off, Luc is still consistent with the grooves. Demo montage of new material for those who may not have heard: Edited by AllP0werToSlaves - February 24 2011 at 10:40 |

How could you ever guess that?
That album is basically my favorite of any genre; I feel like there is so much atmosphere and creativity that is easily over looked (understandably so) by the hyrbid analog/digi production of that era. A good pair of studio headphones are a must when listening...or more accurately, digesting any Gorguts album! Absolutely cannot wait for the new record.

Arguably my most favorite extreme progressive act, I feel like there should be a thread! "Obscura" is definitely noteworthy as a step forward for the genre; I got the chance to see Luc and the new line up live at Maryland Deathfest last summer and it was one of the best sets I have seen by any band. The mixture of heaviness, groove, arrangements and subtle use of melody make Gorguts my all time favorite metal band.
"The Erosion of Sanity" will always be my personal favorite; I feel like that album is still ahead of it's time. It's not an album for everyone, and unless you've got a knack for Gorguts it's very easy to dismiss as standard old-school dm but there is sooooo much buried in the mix, the remastered gold disc with studio headphones is a must! I've always had a very deep personal collection with that album, and it was one of the first to open my eyes to the progressive side of extreme metal in general. New album should be out this summer, and judging by the way the new songs sounded live, we are in for a real treat! What are your thoughts on this classic old-school death metal band turned experimental? Without a doubt a revolutionary band in the progressive metal scene!
