Wow, just. . . . wow.

I know. I am amazing. Everything I say.

That's not quite the reason for my amazement.

Also, I'll download this fat album now. So much drama about it made me curious.

EDIT: Wow, really good. And 100% fitting and appropriate tribute. The album sounds almost as if it was made by DT. Keep it in VA: Tributes, because the music sure is a tribute to Dream Theater and its founding drummer.

I am really struggling with this being a 100% tribute to Portnoy...I listened to the whole album yesterday and a few tracks are good...a lot I just don't see the connection on most songs.
Seems like they may have had a good idea but it got lost along the way and turned into this huge album.

Cool! Big smile

Quote I would say it definitely belongs on this website- perhaps in Various Artists: Samplers rather than Tributes.

That sounds like a very good alternative placement to me. One might definitely call it a "themed sampler" if you're not comfortable with it in the "tribute album" category!

Best not look too closely at the ratings or we'll wake up the conspiracy theorists Wink

Hey guys! Nice conversation - as my name appeared about 3 times I thought I might buzz in. Nothing to say just buzzing in and out. Great free download though and enough prog artists to warrant inclusion.

Peace!

Since it's probably not a website you'll be revisiting too often once you have the mp3s, let me point
out that we have now added Anthony's "A few words from the producer" to www.spaceprog.com Smile

It was mentioned about four times in the OP, I'm surprised you missed it.

Maybe he's referring to the album information in your database, it doesn't mention the official source for this compilation anywhere.
That is something that I have discussed with other collabs, especially concerning free-releases. We do not, for example, list specialist stockists for purchaseable CDs, or mention that the CD is only avalable from the band website because the PA was set-up on the premis that all the discs listed were "generally available"  from "major stockists" so that all members could review them regardless of which country they lived in.

Free-releases are a new phenomina that needs some thought - at present distribution for most free-releases is single point and impermanent - maintainence of links to these in the main database is something we cannot manage on a voluntary basis, and we cannot manage it automatically. Of course these links could be placed in the "Releases information" section of the album entry, but it would not be maintained or updated should the link go dead or the mirror sites move.
What?

Does it? This is not the first time I've been involved in such discussions regarding an album that I had a hand in and it probably won't be the last. Just voicing my opinion. Who knows, maybe some things will change down the road because of something I said (or maybe I'm just rambling, but that's fine, too LOL).

It sure seems they matter to some people, seeing how many times I've seen some reviewer remark that album such-and-such really belongs in category XYZ. LOL

Certainly! Smile

What you like and what the rest of the world likes in terminology is fine by me. We here at PA like VA:Tributes to contain cover versions of the artist being tributed.

I am frequently amused by the importance placed on labels and categories. Our own album's style isn't really captured correctly by any single one of those and that seems to be true for a lot of music that I listen to these days. Really makes you wonder if these categories really matter. Anyway, don't let me disturb your discussion of where this 4-star compilation (as per AtomicCrimsonRush's rating) might fit.  LOL
