WTF?! Is it just me or are posts disappearing? Will we too be washed away like sand to depths of the internet? Is this really the end?

That was the first time I read that poem and I'm pretty sure Henry is right, but I'm not going to spend more than a minute thinking about it.

I am not a serious student of poetry because people who seriously study poetry are mostly all w**kers, so I could be wrong. But he admits he wrote it in five minutes. Writing a very short poem in five minutes doesn't mean it's bad, of course, but I think he just intended for it to be like a photograph of life on the farm, but in poem form. And if you find enjoyment in that snapshot of life, great, but I don't see how you can legitimately read into it much more than that. But I am opposed to deliberate simplicity in all forms so I am not the target audience of minimalist poetry that is attempting to be profound. Which is apparently the only thing people write these days. What, you don't want to devote your life to writing Paradise Lost II?

Well, if you are right about that....then no one else got it. Seriously.
It was taken VERY seriously by my teacher, as did a lot of the students (though some were clearly just going along with it to sound cool). And he went on and on about how it was a major poem in his college career yadda yadda.. So yes, that's what we study now. Although William Carlos Williams is a cool name. |

The point is that wheelbarrows are cool and important if you're a farmer. You're not supposed to take it too seriously, I think. I think it's sort of dumbing down poetry if that's the serious poetry we study now (instead of somebody like Milton), but it's not like he's claiming to be Milton with that. William Carlos Williams does suck, though.

This pissed me off to no end when I read it in Jr year english class
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_Wheelbarrow God damn you, Red Wheelbarrow. My analysis was this, for srs: "I'm sure this poem has a point, but I have no idea what it is." He was a cool guy and lol'd but yeah, I hated that poem. Although I assumed the colors were important symbolism, and the simplicity of the poem had something to do with it all.
