IMHO, the best prog singers ever are Caravan's Richard Sinclair, the early Ian Anderson and Gentle Giant's Derek Shulman and Kerry Minnear... they give me so many emotions that obscure the others.
Anyway, in the bunch of singers the best are Gabriel and Hammill. Since I had to chose one, I cast my vote for Gabriel.

Less than 2 hours to deadline, it seems just now that 10th advancing is Mike Patton. But everything will change yet!

Devin Townsend. I know he might not have the most pleasing voice nor the best technique or anything... But the range, the variation and especially the emotion in his voice is unbelievable.

That surprises me because most people either like hammill a lot or not at all.  Would you say that you think Gabriel's vocals are more diverse and that he conveys emotion better than hammill?  I'm interested to hear someone say what makes Gabriel exceptional aside from personal taste

Indeed, not very exceptional at all (though I wouldn't call Hammill exceptional either, versatile, yes).  None of these guys - Gabriel, Hammill, Jon Anderson, Fish - should be in the same poll as Tim Buckley, he was a vocal magician.  If I had known he would get no votes, would have voted for him instead of Dio. Cry

I dont hate his voice, I would even say I like it, but hes certainly not exceptional and so likewise I cant understand why so many on this site love him.  imo as a vocalist he doesnt belong in the same sentence as someone like Hammill

I'd say the complete opposite, actually

I think he fits very well in this sentence as a vocalist: Two vocalists whose first name is Peter are Peter Hammill and Peter Gabriel.

Wink  I like both of them by the way.
