Shaming of the true is great theatrical prog in the Genesis  vein, sorta tighter and more rocking version but both those songs I linked evoke prog for me as much as, if not more than, Spocks Beard or Flower Kings.  Toy Matinee is more art rock as well as his solo album Thud, agreed. Haven't yet heard No Reasons Given.

Now, I still haven't listened to this (but they are on my list of things to do). However, for what I've read, Transatlantic and The Flower Kings should be some good prospects, and Cast (which was mentioned in the post above). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh, and the Dream Theaters SONGS 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Octavarium (these ones don't have so much metal, they are mainly just prog).

Give Porcupine Tree a try. "Fear of a Blank Planet" or the live album "Arriving Somewhere..." should be a good introduction. Heavy at times but otherwise melodious and ambient; dripping with the English melencholy like Floyd and Genesis.

Don't know how the heck I forgot to mention that one, but seconded - Mei is one of the definitive prog epics of the past decade.

Wobbler, try it.
And if you like a clone of early Genesis try "The Watch" or "Citizen Cain"
Really don't mind if you sit this one out.

Par Lindh Project
anything by them is worth getting but check out the reviews section to get a better idea especially mine and Ivans.

Martin Orford
ex IQ keyboard player who has released two superb solo albums. Seems to be flying under the radar which is a shame as I havn't heard anything better in recent years.Again please check reviews section.

EDIT - I have just found out from reading the reviews section that Martin has retired from the music business. I am absolutely gutted and had no clue that he had done this.Cry

Definitely.  That was a big part of the reason I initially decided to listen to it when it was in Scott's recommendation thread - I was hoping for good spacey stuff, and I wasn't disappointed.

I'm having a hard time finding a lot of things these days ... and the reason why, is that too many of them sound like everything else that has been there before and many times not very original.

I had been listening for a long time to Live 365 stuff and there were several threads in there with progressive music, but after a while, the whole thing is so repetitive that it is boring and I get tired of hearing the same thing over and over and over again ... specially when it isn't that good, but the majority of those shows are not capable of breaking the "radio" format and always have to return to another 5 minute song ... which for me takes the enjoyment out of it.

It has become like ... you can't enjoy music without having to be force fed by the media styles, and thus some of these links will play one nice thing, and then they have to go back and play YES, ELP or KC, just to let us know that they are "progressive" ... and in the end, this is just bad radio ... like the same kind of radio that did not believe in this music in those days ... it's all they know, all they listen to and all they play ... and be damned if anyone says anything else!

I'm already thinking that this "progressive" thing is falling off and to be honest, I wish it a speedy death and end ... and let rap and crap get there instead ... we have to get better than talk about Mozart and Beethoven (as a relative parallel)  but the throng in this board (sometimes) is only interested in the top 5 bands and that's that. Specially when one mentions other parts of the world and some people don't believe that world exists.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
