Michael Kamen and Orbital "Event Horizon"

   looking into my past subscriptions I've found this one apparently pending after 1 year. After relistening to this album, and after having reviewed 60 albums from Senmuth plus two of Tenochtitlan I'd like suggesting Orbital for Experimental/Post Metal or even for Progressive Electronic. In the meantime I have listened to their "Octane" that may fall in both the genres IMO. It's totally electronic but noisy like industrial.
If anybody wants to evaluate them I'll try to add some samples.

	I thought the movie was pretty good but I didn't pay much attention to the music. Think I'll try it again. I did download some Orbital stuff and liked what I heard so far.

	I remember the film well, in fact I thought the storyline was fantastic and the first hour had me totally enthralled. It's a shame it degenerated into a gore-fest towards the end. As for the music, well I don't remember it at all which I suppose says something . Strange that though, as I really rate Orbital and for me they are well worthy of the "modern progressive electronic" title.

	Orbital is a British duo who started with techno but later moved to electronic. The album cover says "Music inspired by", and it contains both electronic and orchestral parts. It makes me think to Senmuth (he's on PA), but with the additon of the orchestral parts. The album scares more than the movie that was quite poor. What is not clear is if Orbital took Kamen's parts or is effectively a collaboration. The album is co-credited.

	I remember the soundtrack of the film was some 90s techno music... But if I understand well what you say, they didn't use Micheal Kamen's and Orbital's music for the soundtrack, just took inspiration from it? The sample was nice (and the last two seconds scared the sh*t out of me, that was unexpected ).

	Not sure this is the right place. The soundtrack of "Event Horizon" is just an album coming from a collaboration, and I don't think they have done much prog on their own. Kamen was arranger and orchestral director for Pink Floyd and Mike Oldfield, he's also responsible of the celtic parts of the Highlander's O.S.T., but this is his only album that I feel progressive (I don't know much of him effectively). On the other side, I don't know Orbital at all, so I can't say. Event Horizon has 3 long tracks of about 15 mins and one shorter as closure. I see similarities with the so-called "industrial rock". The russian Senmuth is an example. I think this can appeal the proggers also because it's inspired by a SciFi/Horror movie and the music is claustrophobic and full of tension as the movie tried to be. This is not the original soundtrack. The soundtrack has been elaborated and what we have now is more "Music inspired by". Unfortunately I didn't find good samples to link, also because of the tracks' length I suppose. Track 3 (Engineering) is my fav.
