I think my personal favourite relates to the Kate Bush song 'Running Up That Hill'. For many years I thought the refrain was "Running up that hill / With no clothing on". There may have been an element of wish-fulfilment involved, given that seeing Kate on one of her earlier Top of the Pops appearances when I would have been about eleven was what I'm going to call a memorable step in my personal development.

Nice story, and about one of my favourite songs ![]() Lonnie was probably hallucinating so hard that he thought he was a golden retriever at some point. Edited by Mascodagama - October 07 2017 at 14:15 |

Not really misheard,
but something I used to joke about in my youth: In "The Fountain of
Salmacis" by Genesis the line "and as his heated breath brushed through
the cool mist" was always sung by me as "and as his heated breath
brushed through the Kuhmist". "Kuhmist" is German for "cow dung" and
pronounced like "cool mist" without the "l".

I thought the female vocals in Games Without Frontiers were singing "She's so f**king old".

Steely Dan - The Boston Rag.
The lyric goes: "Lonnie swept the playroom, and he swallowed up all he found... it was 48 hours 'til Lonnie came around." I swear I always thought this song was about a dog (a Golden Retriever, in my mind) named Lonnie. I heard: "Lonnie swept the playroom, and he swallowed a ball he found..." I actually thought this was the lyric for darn-near 40 years (I had this tape when I was a kid), I didn't get clued-in to the actual lyric until about a week ago. I will forever see in my minds eye, a golden retriever unconscious for 48 hours because of that swallowed ball, and then miraculously "came around."

What the actual f**k did I just watch? And to think I like that album... *drops head into hands* This is why I prefer my musicians to just be a sound emanating from my headphones. Anything more and they just embarass themselves and me.

At last, at last! Someone who misheard it the way I misheard it. Conducted a thorough search. During which it was revealed to be Kate Bush singing ( remedial French made me laugh ). |

My terribly misheard lyrics from Nine Feet Underground:
"Think of the mow that you're lawning" xDDDDD I thought it was some random word play, but really it wasn't. Edited by Hrychu - September 01 2017 at 09:37 |

I thought it was "cards are broken locked inside the mother earth" when it's really "cords are broken locked inside the mother earth." Speaking of "those guys" I also thought it went "tell the moon to tell the marcher" when it's really "tell the moondog tell the march hare."

Yeah, that's the song, though it sounds different in that movie... with more modern sensibilities... yet, this version sounds much better for me, and still if you are distracted, or want to listen to it wrong, the misheard lyric could stand.

I wonder if it's Shocking Blue's hit Venus? The funny thing is that the song was a huge hit in the USSR, but as the majority of the listeners did not speak English, the song became known as Shizgada, a corruption of the line "She's got it" in the refrain. |
