 Topic: Blade Runner vs. A Scanner Darkly

I still haven't seen A Scanner Darkly. Blade Runner is great, and is very different from the book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Another Dick-head here. My two favourites of his are Ubik and Dr. Bloodmoney. His latest i was reading was The Man in the High Castle, but I returned it to the library before finishing it since I got caught up in work at that time.

Ooh, I have! It was confusing, but great. I loved the intertwining stories, although it took a few visits to the Internet to get it all figured out.

^ I have read and watched Electric Sheep and Blade Runner, respectively, and I must say that, yes, they are quite different. Only the themes pretty much are shared. The book is a little weirder, though, as it came from the mind of Dick.

I haven't seen either of these films, but I want to considering Dick is one of my favorite authors. I've heard that Blade Runner is nothing like Electric Sheep, but still a great film.

Blade Runner is visually and aurally orgasmic (  ) and the overall atmosphere and genuine human themes is why it is a classic, and, IMO the greatest sci-fi film right behind 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Thats a much better way of how I describe it, "total mindf*ck" But yes, I was blown away when I watched it the first time!

Blade Runner is in an entirely different league; it is much more famous and is a 'classic.' While the overall setting (and the final dramatic scene between the robot and Harrison Ford is beyond beautiful) i find alot of the storyline plods along, and there are quite a few boring scenes.
A Scanner Darkly is as cerebral as it is visually stunning. It is one of those movies that takes a few times to figure out.

Just about anything by Dick is great. Scanner was interesting, but Blade Runner is one of the greatest movies ever. A brilliant vision of future LA, great casting, great everything!! I have watched it in it's various forms and enjoy all of them.

I like Scanner Darkly, but I LOVE Blade Runner.
I think a better poll would be Scanner Darkly vs Waking Life and Blade Runner vs Alien.

Scanner's a better book than Do Androids Sleep, but Blade Runner is such a fantastic flick...
I love Philip K Dick - such tremendous ideas, even if his writing was somewhat hampered by the abuses and contractual obligations.

Same here. I own both of the books, but haven't gotten around to them yet. I've liked everything else of his that I've read so far, though, so I'm sure I'll enjoy these two as well.
