Topic: Mastodon? Posted: June 01 2005 at 22:01 |
Certainly if you can appreciate metal Mastodon will appeal to the prog part of your mind at least. Top-notch use of dynamics and constantly shifting rhythms and tempos, think a more technical and extreme version of old Metallica.

Prog is the new punk, becuase kids who shop at Hot Topic don't know Bill Bruford is God.

Like some people already said, it's not prog. Not at all, imo. But it's good enough metal.

The drummer sounds like Neil Peart and Christian Vander on speed and the new album has some prog passages on it. The vocals are mostly kind of a bark but the new album has some singing and mellower vocals to counterbalance.
Just buy Leviathan, it's one of the best metal albums of the past decade easy.

Although they have some prog elements I do not really consider them progressive, it's still mainly metal, none the less still a good band from what I've heard by them. They have a concept album out based on Moby Dick, which is all I've heard by them, if you like metal as much as prog it'd be worth while to check them out.
