Just joined two clubs, one is a field archery club where we wander
around in wooded areas and 'shoot' at targets which have been secreted
in the undergrowth and the other club is a pure target archery club
where yours truly pits his megre skills against a target placed up to 4
feet away.

Sean: Oh-my-good-god!! I can see why your experience might
have put you of the bow forever and if that had happened to me, I'm sure I
would have reacted likewise. Glad you got away and lived to post this story.
Utah_Man: I don't think there is any need is there as the rap community appears
to be intent on shooting each-other full of holes without our help.

for archery target practice:
get things that have to do with rap music (posters, t-shirts, CDs, music videos, etc.) & shoot 'em full o' holes till there is nothing left...

oh... and be sure to capture it all on camera...

We used to have archery in High school (Toronto), and I was not too bad at it.
Had a friend that was nuts about it (as well as crossbows) and he hunted with it. Once brought me along, at the early morning! Saw something move in the bushes and he asked to shoot in the bushes as to scare the animal (we thought a hare or a rabbit) and my buddy was waiting for it as it got out , with his bow armed and ready! So I shot in the bush and this huge howl/gnarl came out of the bush followed by a black bear, than it saw us and started running after us. We had to run for our lives to the 4WD , almost caught by the bear (with an arrow in the right rear shoulder hindering its speed, luckily or else one of us would've been caught), finally managed inside the truck but could not get it started so the bear started attacking the vehicule making solid bumps and scratches. Finally , we managed to get the truck started and drove away. I looked down to see if I had pissed myself..... guess I was too busy running , but for all I know I might have done as well as I was not really proud of hurting an animal
We warned the Forest Rangers the a bear with a broken arrow in its rear shoulder should be traeted. Never heard if they got it. Hope so, because it was a relatively nasty place for a wound.
Never touched a bow since , not even at fairs or playground.

let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword

Phew, glad to know it's not just me!
I've only recently taken the sport up. It seems to be much more popular that I
thought it was as I've found loads of clubs all over the South of England (and the UK). From the
little I know of it seems that the Americans, the Italians and the South
Koreans are the top dogs in this sport however (Robin Hood must be turning in
his grave.)
I'm shooting a recurve bow at the moment but haven't decided if I'm gonna do Field
or Target Archery.

I done it once and twice and really enjoyed it. But don't really have an interest in doing it on a regular basis.

It's a very cool sport! I used to do some target shooting (strictly recreational), but haven't owned a bow for years.
I've been thinking of getting back into it, with my son -- good, clean fun!

I have a bow and arrow, and used to shoot a bit, but the garden centre next door took the big fence down and put a crappy thin one up, so I can't really do it at home. I might try and start up again when I go to university.

I am, but just for looking at pretty pics. I'm not interested in actually doing the sport.
