Topic: Best Art Rock artist Posted: June 13 2005 at 10:26 |
Not sure if Rush is artrock, but they're the best on the list so I voted for them. They win just about ANY poll as far as I'm concerned.
But it's still frustrating to see 10cc and Be Bop Deluxe ignored on this site---two VERY worthy artrock bands.

I voted for Roxy Music, because I wouldn't call the other artists "art-rock". I guess somebody at ProgArchives was deaf when Uriah Heep, Styx and Kansas had to be classified, and that someone behind a deck shouted 'hardrock', and the person behind the pc lost his/her hearing aid, so it became 'art-rock' instead .
The 1st two Roxy Music albums are fantastic by the way!

Let me be the first to point out that Djam Karet is an instrumental band...if anything, the voices you hear are samples.

From these: Gabriel, Hackett, Moodies, Talk Talk. I don't know really when to call music 'art rock' as opposed to prog - I personally use the term as simply a larger term, that is, including prog. And is 'art pop' also an accepted term? I don't much care for categorizing anyway, but if someone has good criteria, tell me.

I will never understand why one clasifies Rush as art rock (or Kansas actually). I love their music but it does'nt make sense.
So I had to choose between Moody blues and Talk talk and I picked the second because they made 2 absolute masterpieces and also have less recognition here.
