After three months, dear eclectic team, is Ron Geesin suitable for PA?

I've heard As He Stands and the only full prog category I could see it into is Avant. Prog Related would be perfect if a SC would support this case.

I'm not that familiar with his music, but I quite like what I remember (and what I'm hearing now from the samples). Overall, he may be better suited to Prog Related. I hear electronic and psyche as primary to what would be suitable for PA. Some of his music sounds very Doctor Whoish (*me puts on Don Harper*)
It reminds me a bit of the White Noise case. Here's a Geesin myspace, by the way. http://www.myspace.com/rongeesin |

I won't go for that, as my memory is really weak and I might have did the search not too properly. :/
After a consideration I think Geesin should be listed under Avantgarde Prog, because the experiments are clearly objects of his biggest interest. And I must add, the song "The middle of whose night?" from "As He Stands" is reeeeaaaally amazing because the vocalist is evidently pretending to be a violin or viola, and he's really great at it :) Edited by Wiktor Hatif - June 01 2010 at 16:29 |

I haven't ever had a problem with the search engine, could be a problem with the way you entered the info or it might have been a temporary glitch. I'm not involved with technical aspects of this site (that would be M@X and the webmaster). You might want to alert M@X to the problem here if it persists:
Report bugs here Thanks. |

Wiktor: Since there was a recent topic on him, I will merge it with the other topic. EDIT: merged.
I love his work on Atom Heart Mother, and would have to re-familiarise myself with his "solo" work. Edited by Logan - June 01 2010 at 15:49 |

You all know Ron Geesin very well from his collaboration at "Atom Heart Mother", and with Roger Waters, but he made a couple of albums of his own. I listened to the "As He Stands" album from 1973.
It is extremely experimental and eclectic stuff. It sounds momentarily like Tea&Symphony, Giles,Giles&Fripp and Godley&Creme's "Consequences". The album features 16 quite short songs, played on guitars, electric guitar, banjo, piano, keyboard, strings, and unidentified electronic stuff. It also features some funny dialogues/monologues. Momentarily it presents really modern electronic sound. I found one song from this album on youtube, though it hardly shows the progressivity of the whole album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx13vkWw_8U here's the link for wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Geesin Edited by Wiktor Hatif - May 30 2010 at 11:43 |

IMHO this guy belongs either in Avant or Eclectic. 'As He Stands' is probably not the best representation of his work; he has about a dozen albums. Most of them are impossible to find but from some of the reviews I've read it sounds like he ranges all over the place musically on some of those other records. Most definitely not Prog Folk though; any resemblance to acid folk in his music is likely more an influence of psych than anything else. |

After my quick checkin' ... a terrific experimental project indeed.
Based on Acid Folksy style but sometimes quirky avantgarde bloomin', with tiny Kraut-ish spice. IMHO he can be fit for Psych but at first should he be tossed to Prog Folk Team? If they vote against him, Psych Team will evaluate I think. |
