Although perhaps going a bit off track Winifred Attwell and Scott Joplin were also very important if we are talking de-tuned piano of which Emerson was particularly fond of.
I seem to recall also Rick Wakeman expressing admiration for Russ Conway (although I might have imagined itLOL )

We speak of Emerson, and Wakeman, and Wright, and many others.  But there were a handful of Vox Continental and Farfisa wielding keyboardists who paved the way.  No mistaking, this is for the most part garage rock stuff.  But it forever holds a place in my heart.  Some representative songs added.

Alan Price (Animals): House of the Rising Sun
Augie Meyers (Sir Douglas Quintet): She's About a Mover
Mike Smith (Dave Clark Five): Because
Frankie Rodriguez Jr. (aka Rudy Martinez) (? Mark and the Mysterians): 96 Tears
Domingo Samudio (aka Sam the Sham) (Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs):  Wooly Bully
Paul Revere:  Just Like Me

Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.
