Anyone know of the band Carmen...

I had never heard of them, but I was curious after reading this thread. Now I found some songs (I won't tell you how they came to me) and I have to agree with Carakhallo: they were just pathetic...

I also think I disagree with Wallace, but I cannot be completely sure on this

Shure, fer sheer musicianship,the Spanish guitar proggers are clear amaingst the varra best, but wha makit Carmen stand oot is the accessable yet challangin' compositioon and the dynamics. Alser there is mair give an' play -ebb an' flow in th' longer pieces tha in similar ains done by th' Spanish.

Ah cannae unnerstaun' Spanish langwidge so ah cannae speak fer Spanish prog lyric, but wha I DO lik aybit Carmen's lyrics be th' ingrain'd MELANCHOLY tha crops up here an' thare.(Spanish literature has this in common with Roossian.) Fer instance, thare be a scene in the epic concept on side twa o' "Dancing on a Cold Wind" where the lover's tragedy befalls an' Daith be all arund. Dis gets Wallace a-blubberin' evray time.

Secund lp, "Dancing On A Cold Wind" (wh' a wunnerfool title!) be, tae Wallace's ear, even a bit mair "Spanish" den "Fandangos" lp.
"Gypsies" (laist) lp is th' least progressive an' ha' least flamenco-stylin's. It be mair towaards straight rock.

O coorse, th' only Spaniard inna band were th' dancer -flash assa rat wif a gold tooth an' 'ansome as all get -Roberto Amaral.
Coontrary tae wha many believe -the Allen bruther an' sister are frae Amerikay, noo British.
David Bowie discoover'd dem an' brought in Fenton & Glascock o' UK bluesrock band ,Chicken Shed.
(Th'bassist, Glascock, later gang tae play on Jethro Tull lps "Songs from the Wood","Heavy Horses", "Too Old to R&R" an' "Bursting Out". Him were workin' on "Stormwatch" when him dies o' heart failure (brought on by tooth infectioon!) )

Saw them with Jethro Tull years ago. Fandangoes in
Space is a good not great album, the flamenco thing
works to varying degrees along the way. Wish they
could have developed it further. Bozzio Levin Stevens
kinda built on that same idea on a few songs more
recently.
