Topic: How Was 2009 For You? Posted: January 05 2010 at 06:53 |
I chose 'Other'. My year has been respectably crap but not freaking awful.
You don't have a "2009 was filled with a respectable level of crap for me" option.

2009 was completely uneventful for me. Nothing really happened in my personal life, I applied to Uni, but didn't get in (yay!), lost a couple of friends (temporarily) as they moved elsewhere, but didn't gain any new... The only thing worth mentioning was losing ~15 kgs of weight. That was nice.
Uhm, yeah, not a whole lot to cheer about. No major ups, no major downs.

Did I forget to mention Memphis, home of Elvis, and the ancient Greeks?
I'm checking it out, I got it figured out... |
Well, if you got it figured out, you got it figured out, explain it to me. I have found myself a city, found myself a city to live in. I am surrounded by injuns from the Asia. I have nowhere else to go. Well we know where we're going but we don't know where we've been. What's that road we're on? Excuse me I think I smell home cookin'.

It was sh*t and it was good at the same time. On the sh*t side: 1. I got expelled from my previous grammar school for not being smart enough (oh that's a kick in the balls, trust me) 2. I got my heart broken several times by the same woman 3. I've fallen prisoner to my car insurance company and am now mostly skint 90% of the time On the good side: 1. I lost my virginity to an absolute goddess 2. I've met countless people, most of which fantastic, through my new college 3. I passed my driving test 4. I have a job 5. I turned 18 But the good far outweighs the bad, so I think I'm gonna go with it was good, with room for improvement.

Goddamn new years and all this reflection....especially bad with this whole new decade thing.
I find it difficult to evaluate years as a whole. Often I bias them with what happened at the end of the year, for better or worse. Usually worse, but this last half of the year as been quite odd indeed. Some horrible times, further drifting apart from people I wish wouldn't go so far away, no personal goals accomplished, and I'm still unprepared for this whole adult life stuff everyone is talking about. However, odd good things happened with new people and various bits of potential (which is hard to judge overall and something I wish I could ignore more in year evaluations) for good in the future. First half much worse in some ways. Not really better in any way, at least from what I can remember. If only I could not let all this constant failure to define my outlook on life.
2009 really just made my utopias farther away and much more unrealistic so I gotta say f**k you to 2009 overall. Where to put this in the ranks of the past couple of years is uncertain and certainly nothing I'm in the condition to answer now. At least 2010 was brought in with a bang.
Not sure what to answer in the choices above. Maybe I"ll just vote other to save myself the thinking.

2009? It's been up and down. I took a nice solo road trip to Wyoming to hang out with old high school/college friends I had not seen in 20 years. We drank too much beer. I saw incredibly desolate areas of the American west. I met a guy who said, "If you move to Weiser, you'd better bring your own job." He ain't kidding.
That's the up. The down? My work sucks. The company I work for laid off 40% of us in May. I dodged the layoff, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. I get to do the work of three people now, in what is an essentially empty building.
Other up. Was introduced to some great music and my family is, for the time being, doing all right.

Considering all the new crap I've been dealing with, surprisingly OK. I think being mostly mentally stable after quitting depression meds I've been on for 2+ years (at least) is a pretty solid thing. I'm not satisfied by a long shot, though.

Definitely not too shabby, though it wasn't an easy year - with having to cope with my move to another country, not having a job, dealing with all the immigration c**p, bouts of homesickness, things to take care of back in Italy, and so on and so forth. There have been some difficult moments, but as a whole I can't complain too much, especially about the final months of the year. I have started teaching Italian again, and today I even got an offer from another school (same organization though). My health is still good (hopefully it will be for a long, long time), and I'm becoming an even better cook than I was in the past. And - last but not least - a few days ago Micky and I celebrated one year of successfully putting up with each other ! Edit: And let's not forget the start of my career as an 800-word-plus reviewer !

Alot people have said "mixed" or "some awesome, some sh*t"
Isn't that how every year goes? At least for me.. As I said...considering the conditions that so many millions have to live in, and the conditions and struggles that so many face...I had a great year. No matter what has happened, it is not nearly as bad as what so many face with. So I had a great year

Not too shabby. Started a new musical project. Kids doing well in school. A few very cool trips (Steve Vai retreat being up there for all time best vacations). Finding a philosophical / religious home - sort of.
2010 could be phenomenal.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Could have been better - on the health front - but really not a lot to complain about. Here's looking at 2010!
