Honestly, I just hope he'll tour Amused to Death even once. If he played it all the way through, and released a DVD of it, I think I would be completely satisfied, and of course I'd go to the show. I'm excited for The Wall tour as well, though not -as- much.

Lots of artists besides Roger Waters have been absent for awhile. . .Greg Lake comes to mind; he's not particularly active. . .I suppose if he had material to present that he was ready to, he would. . .lots of rich people in their 60's have different priorities.

When i was younger, i think R.W is a god! when he left pink floyd and present his first album " pros and...." in 1984, i loved him. after " RADIO KAOS " i was shocked. what is this? is this a roger waters album? i dont know how roger do that. But in1992 waters back to his style. the " amuse to death" is one of the best album in waters style. But you must know this album is the optimum of one artist and i wish he dont continue. I want to draw picture of waters with this album in my mind. I fear to another album like RADIO KAOS. Maybe KAOSPHOBIA!!!!!

Doesn't need the hassle, the money, the attention, the fame.......
Anyway, this long time disciple is of the opinion that everything he did in both Floyd & solo led up to Amused to Death, the work of a singular genius and easily one of the finest LPs of all time. It would be nigh on impossible to cap that anyway. BTW - what's wrong with opera? I thought Ca Ira was quite good. |

Wow, man. 'only the best guitar playing in rock' is really something, you know. I own Radio K.A.O.S., the Hitchhiking album, and Amused to Death. While KAOS sounds somewhat dated today, and the Hitchhiking has a few boring moments and déjà vus here and there, the whole of Amused to Death is a work of art that's far superior than the sum of its parts. Miraculous you call it babe, but it's definitely one of the album I never get bored with. Ca Ira is not my cup of tea but I have to admire him for the courage to put it out. I clearly would appreciate more music from this man, but i think he really deserves a standing ovation and a rest. |

Why why why hasn't Roger Waters released an album?
Because he had to catch one first in order to release it, I guess. Oops, I thought it was a riddle... sorry ** disappears into the darkest corner ** |

The main reason for working in the early days is fame and fortune. In his 60's now, there is a big check mark next to both of these that is 3 decades old. Like all of the Floyd's, that is probably the biggest reason for the lack of albums. There is also alot of work involved and lets face it, most of the kids today aren't going to buy it. The have their heros.
So to recap, hard work plus diminished returns or go play golf, hmmm, golf it is!

Judging by how terrible Leaving Beirut is, he probably shouldn't release another album.

Don't want to sound like a fan boy but Amused to Death is one of my all-time top ten favorite albums and I would love to see him make another album, in fact a remember a interview about ten years ago with him raving on about another concept album. However, he can do whatever he wishes with his time, it is not up to us fans. What would be cool is to see Pink Floyd reunite!

He obviously doesn't need the money, and presumably doesn't need the hassle

Well... I say what I think:
BecauseI was disappointed by former Pink Floyd members (not Syd Barrett) albums... I do not see the need for an album of Roger Waters. Of any kind!

If I were the artist I would get a lawyer to put together a get well card with a big finger sticking out of it ... better yet, I'll get Hipgnosis to make a cover ... and give it to the fans ... it wouldn't be the first time that Roger has trashed some fans (check out some bootlegs ... )
There is no artist out there that makes music "for you" .... unless you are some kind of record company stooge. And remember, that Pink Floyd and Roger have been on the outside of that ... from the start ... why would you want to change that?

Hi,
I guess you do not have enough respect for Roger and his desire to do something different than simple rock music ... CA IRA ... obviously means nothing to you ...
Between you and I, Roger needs a break to get his stuff together ... he does not have to work ever again if he does not want to. So anything he does is either because he has a desire to, or he caved in to the amount of money promised ... for which he would probably be called a fool for not accepting it!
All that said, I think that Roger tried hard to do something good with CA IRA ... but it has one majestic flaw ... there is no way that he was ever going to put a dent in the world of classic music just because his name was Roger Waters ... and I really think that the only think that is really missing is a nice electric guitar to do a couple of things he wanted that the violins and conductors at hand could not do ... the highs were missing ... the passion was intelectual, not real ... and this all coming from a man that cried his heart out in The Wall.
Will he have a new album? Sure ... someday ... does he have to do it today? NO.
But I really think that CA IRA getting trashed silly and not selling is gonna get on his gonads ... I don't think he is going to trash the pompousness and the world of classical music, but I think that he is going to stay away from it ... I don't think that those people took him seriously ... and as mentioned above, I think that he tried to ignore his source and soul ... and as such the piece of music suffered. CA IRA has some nice moments, but it is not much ... compared to so many other musical pieces out there ... in fact it is not even memorable compared to some of the things that Roger has done!
Take a break Roger ... figure out what you need to do and then do it ... forget the rest, including all this!

I'm not a fanboy either! - I'm a deranged disciple! Seriously before I read Hume or Aristotle I listened to the lyrics of Roger Waters. It probably greatly sparked my interest in Nietzsche and later Marx I was just new to middle school (actually probably late elementary but I can't remember) when I discovered Pink Floyd and bought "all their discs in a hat"! IN SHORT I'M COMPLETELY BIASED AND UNREALISTIC but pulling myself together: IF i was rational I could still claim that Roger has given us less than he should have, for reasons I have already cited.
all valid refutations And I apologize for bashing David Gilmour, but the man simply does not understand what PF was really about - only a little of the emotional feeling and the best guitar playing in Rock... although he almost gets there sometimes. Roger too, of course, retreated from PF's main political/sociological direction even with the Wall in some way and definitely by the time of Pros and Cons. Radio KAOS was just bad, but he was trying to popularize the PF approach (by selling out and junking every aspect of it). Amused to Death proved he still had it, despite falling apart a bit at the end (Watching TV?). EDIT: if you guys can't tell Alan Parsons Project is in my Pantheon (sic?) Waters has treated us to exactly ONE decent solo album, and that was nearly twenty years ago.
Why bother him? |

One think is for shure. If he would release a new record it would be either great or awful. Some feeling I have...

Is this a case of fanboyism run wild? Mr. Waters has his own life and can do as he pleases. His contributions stand tall - he doesn't need to do anything else. At the same time, I understand the feeling of waiting for a favorite artist to produce something new. The time between Peter Gabriel's So and Us was almost torture for me. But that's a problem I had many years ago.
And why why why whine about Gilmour being clueless? He made the album he wanted to make and it was a good one. Despite his claim, Roger Waters was not Pink Floyd. I agree with Ivan about Gilmour bashing - the man doesn't deserve it at all.
