Yes, indeed we often forget he is actually a very good vocalist. That's very sad news, Phil is one of my favourite drummers ever. His drumming is very distinctive, and always inspired. |

I like Phils voice for its warmth, especialy in he's ballads he conveys true warmth and feeling to he's songs ( i Like ballads which are sung well and have rich texture and Phil knows how to make texture)

"Phil drumming back to us is against all odds and it's what we've got to face."
But seriously, what a magnificent career the man's had, both as a singer and as an instrumentalist! |

Yes. On the very moment Phil Collins sings his last note all copies of his albums disappear around the world along with the very knowledge of the fact that he ever opened his mouth in the first place.

I hope he can play again one day too. Because the alternative--him just singing syrupy MOR ballads--is even more depressing to contemplate. . .

Especially when the URL says "daily-gossip". I'm also optimistic and I hope that someday he can play again. And even if he can't, his voice still hasn't gone anywhere... |

This reacalls the period when U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr. was sidelined owing to spinal problems. If reports be true, he actually uses specially designed drumsticks from Japan to lessen the force reaction on his body when he plays.

They've mentioned something like that before, but by the time they stop procrastinating they'll all be dead. Anyway, I hope he's doing okay -Jeff |

I hope you're right, it would be a real shame if he never played again. Mind you I wouldn't be surprised if he never gets a strong enough urge to play again; he really seems to have lost interest in music generally over the last few years. a Genesis reunion with Gabriel might be what we need to shake him out his apathy.

It is terrible news, but as Roland113 says he may well find a way. I hope so. He was always among progs finest drummers. I wish him well.

That sucks. Take it easy Phil, you've earned it. Oddly enough, I ordered Face Value and it just arrived yesterday. Haven't heard that one in many years. But man he was drumming all over the place in the '70's and '80's. My collection is riddled with Phil.

Eh, not to sound flippant, just two years ago he said that he was never going to sing again, if he toured it would be behind the drums. I'm still hopeful. If Mr. Collins decides that he wants to drum again, he'll find a way. The article that I found stated that this was an ongoing issue derived from his drumming posture over the previous fifty years. I believe that when the urge hits him strong enough, he can relearn to play from a different sitting position. While I'm certainly not a drummer, I'm a musician. If you've done something that you love for so long, you'll find ways to continue doing it.
